Shrek is love, Shrek is life. You are warned not to google that phrase, unless you follow it with bandcamp, lest you find something distinctly less musical and more bowels of the internet than what I’m writing about. At the Shrek is Love bandcamp, find the amazing union of the talents of vocalist Michael Mayo, pianist Jacob Mann, bassist Nick Campbell, drummer Christian Euman, and the harmony (singular, for the one chord complemented) of Raquel Rodriguez. Digging the new Amber Coffman single. No release date on the album yet (titled City of No Reply), but if the rest of her music sounds like this, let's hope it's out in time for summer. http://bighornsheep.ca/2017/04/03/amber-coffman-no-coffee

Oakland-based artist Jay Som (Melina Duterte) released her excellent debut album today. It's a true DIY effort, created in just three weeks with Duterte responsible for playing all the instruments as well as the writing, recording, and producing. Her ability to blend a variety of unique sounds and styles to form a cohesive album is really impressive, and the album is bound to have music nerds geeking out over subtle nods to its many influences. Welcome to our new series, Bad Music Journalism, where we analyze and laugh at bad writing. For our inaugural entry in "Bad Music Journalism," we are lucky enough to have a double-whammy. Let's begin with Slate's article, "Cry Me a River (of White Male Tears)." (Just start by reading the subheadline. I'm not even going to comment on it, because I have zero idea what he's saying.) They’re back, self-titled, and as beautifully bizarre as ever. Diving headfirst into hardship, founder David Longstreth begins Dirty Projectors with a solemn nod to ex-bandmate and ex-girlfriend Amber Coffman. Keep Your Name samples Coffman’s vocals off their 2012 track, Impregnable Question, repeating We don’t see eye to eye. To be clear, he opens the album by manipulating a sample of his ex’s declaration of love into a devastating howl. [ 524 more words ] http://bighornsheep.ca//03/01/album-review-dirty-projectors
