We know young people need strong, supportive relationships with adults outside of their immediate family to succeed. We at Big Sisters are dedicated to filling this enormous void created by the pandemic, but we need your support! We are continuously recruiting adult volunteers in the lower mainland and tri-cities, but we also encourage all youth to see Big Sisters as an option to create meaningful relationships that help develop their confidence and truly shine in their life. That’s one of the few advantages of running a virtual BMO marathon this year! Big Sisters is proud to be one of six chosen charities for the BMO Vancouver Marathon this year. We will be cheering our runners from afar as they run a race of their choice on their own time in the month of May. Today is #IAmAMentor Day and we are so proud of all our mentors for igniting the potential of many youth in this community. After asking our Big Sister mentor, Kimberly why she wanted to be a mentor, she said: I wanted to become a mentor with Big Sisters because I love connecting with youth. They carry so much intelligence, awareness and kindness that often gets dimmed if not recognized or nurtured in the right way. As a woman who benefited immensely by having the right support system while growing up, I wanted to be that support for someone else. My Little Sister is such a bright light, and it doesn't surprise me that she is influencing and impacting my life as much I could be doing to hers. Comment or share your story of why you are a Mentor at Big Sisters. Don’t forget to tag us! #MentoringMonth
