Please come out to walk with us on November 21's World Day of Remembrance. Let us remember those we have lost to road violence and come together to send a message to the public - we have seen enough, we demand change. . #visionzero #WorldDayofRemembrance #VRU #roadsafety #trafficviolence
Hopeful and heartbreaking stories with an optimistic future. The state of post pandemic cycling in Toronto by Max Mertens https://t.co/XwCTFl2bhI
Unacceptable. Only a 1 year conditional sentence for a hit & run which killed cyclist and father of 3, Safet Tairowski. The driver, Alexandra Forrestall, left the scene, fabricated a story to police and knowingly left Safet alone on the side of the road, believing he was possibly dead. Her stay at home sentence will be for 1 year. In just 3 short years, we'll be sharing the road with her again. How is this justice for Safet and his family? #dangerousdrivers get away with murder.
Excellent Article posted in ARC by Jo Koga We sincerely need change. Until these steps are taken, we also need meaningful deterrence. Support Bill 62 Protecting Vulnerable Road User Act. https://www.ola.org//legislative-business/bills/parliament
Community members have organized the Wayne Scott Community Service Award. An award which recognizes a community organization that has made a significant contribution to active transportation by fighting for equity, health, safety, or climate justice. Wayne dedicated many years of his life to improving the conditions for foot and bike couriers, and people on bicycles generally. He died on Jan 27. https://nowtoronto.com//in-memoriam-cycling-advocate-wayne The first annual award will be presented in April 2021. Please consider making a contribution if you can. This award is a partnership between the Toronto Community Bikeways Coalition and the International Federation of Bicycle Messenger Associations (IFBMA).
Perfect words to encapsulate the life of an inspiring man. We will miss you, Wayne. "Onward" as you would say OXO.
We have lost one of the great ones in the Toronto biking (and legal) world. Wayne was many things to many people. I was fortunate enough to meet Wayne in the network of active transportation advocates, activists, and supporters. He was the paramount figure in all three. A stalwart. Every word he spoke was consistent with his corresponding acts. He was not-fly by night, his actions were steady and consistent. They were also long standing with decades of action. His energy...Continue reading

We have lost a great one. Thank you to Jo Koga for this wonderful write up which depicts the passion, drive and dedication Wayne had for our cycling community. A true trailblazer who fought for what he believed in every single day he lived. We will remember you always, and keep your legacy alive, Wayne. Ride in Peace.
Excited to see more cyclist and pedestrian friendly spaces opening up in TO, a little something to look forward to! Less cars = more active people. More active people = healthier lives and less burden on our health care system. #rideproud . #ActiveTO

She is not a statistic. She is 23 year old Alexandra Amaro. She was a daughter, a friend, a beloved coworker, an aspiring journalist, a philosopher, a human. Her loved ones use words like "angel" and "vibrant" when they describe her. She was deeply loved. We owe it to Alexandra and her family to know her, to say her name, and to remember her. She is not a number, she is Alexandra. . We will honour her memory in every step we take as we fight for safer streets. We wil...l say her name when we speak of her and we will not let her be yet another number. Rest peacefully, Alexandra. . . #TODeadlyStreets #BikeTO #dufferin #cyclist See more

Thank you ARC for caring and ensuring we don’t forget.
UPDATE: After consulting with the young cyclist's family, the ride will be modified to a general ride for the 15 fallen cyclists this year in the Greater Toront...o Area, and support Ontario Bill 62, The Vulnerable Road User's law. We will ride from Spadina and Bloor to the Ontario Legislature at Queen's Park at the same time and from the same place as the original message. ORIGINAL MESSAGE: A Ghost Bike Memorial Ride for a 23-year-old woman killed while riding her bicycle on 2 December 2020. She was riding south on Dufferin street when she was clipped by a van towing a trailer. Meet at 6:00 p.m. at Matt Cohen Park at Spadina and Bloor. Ride departs at 6:30 p.m. Rain or Shine. The ride is approximately 2 km long out to the crash site. As it is night time, please make sure you have a light on your bike. Masks and social distancing in effect at the start, and whenever there will be a stationary crowd.
NO GHOST BIKE RIDE THIS WEEK Because of the COVID-19 lockdown rules in Toronto, and for the general health & safety of our community, there will be no formal Ghost Bike Memorial Ride in Etobicoke. A Ghost Bike will be placed at the crash site on Royal York Road at some point this week. The cyclist was a recently retired teacher. Our condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues.
Today we mourn the loss of another #cyclist struck down yesterday evening on #Dufferin. Our hearts go out to her loved ones and those that are hurting. If you or someone you know witnessed this horrific collision, please reach out to TPS. Details of the memorial ride organized by Advocacy for Respect for Cyclists are in the comments. #BikeTO
Our thoughts are with the loved ones of this fallen cyclist tonight. 40 year old male struck by cement truck in Mimico.
This year may look different, but we will always find a way to remember and honour victims of road violence. #WorldDayofRemembrance Friends and Families for Safe Streets
Language Matters: A GuideToo often, the media and police use language that victimizes cyclists, often in dehumanizing ways. Here's a guide on how to describe crashes (there are no accidents), and other road conflicts with Vulnerable Road Users. Here's some guidelines that British cyclists are drawing up as best practices when describing these incidents in the media.
