A third storyteller for our March 5 Bikes + Children event is Karly Ross, who took a cycling trip from Jasper to Banff with their family at the age of 9 to highlight how building relationships between bicycling adults and children can shape and impact lifelong experiences of bicycles. Their uncle (who is what most people think of when they think of a cyclist) accompanied Karly and their family on this trip. They will share how food, connection, and support transcend the bike identities and how having adults who allowed them to explore on a bike, while also showing different ways to engage with bikes formed their experience of bikes as a tool for freedom, self reflection and exploration.

Come to our virtual Bikes+Children event this Friday to hear Lotte Bech, a member of the Cycling Embassy of Denmark, tell us about Learning by Playing where small 2-3 yr old children develop cycling skills while they are playing. This is the way we plant the seeds for the future cycle culture in many countries. The children are the same all over the world, they are learning by playing. First-hand experience with the Danish cycle culture you can get at the Bikeable City Masterclass in Copenhagen.

Areli Carreón is a founding member of Bicitekas A.C. in Mexico City, which has promoted the use of bicycles as a means of transportation and as a means to create more humane cities since 1998. Areli was elected Bike Mayor of Mexico City during the 6th World Bicycle Forum in Mexico City.
