Bike shop closing 2020 I am closing our shop for the season. It’s been a strange season in our bike shop this year. COVID has forced me to change how I conducted business. It’s been very busy in all bike shops this year selling and repairing bikes. Bikes and parts were in very short supply. There were a few customers I could not get parts for to fix their bikes. I had to dig deep into my used parts bins to keep many other bikes running this year. Customers were appreciative o...f the used parts to keep their rides on the road. I met new clients this year and welcomed back clients from previous years. I thank you all for trusting me with your bikes. I hope you all ride safe and enjoy the rest of the riding season. In order to provide bicycle repair service during this time of social distancing, Campbellford Bicycle Repair is implementing the following procedures. First of all customers should contact me by email or text to arrange an appointment. Contact information is below. Then customers can drop off their bike(s) and leave in my driveway. Once I have the bike I can evaluate repairs etc. and provide the cost to the customer. Once repairs or tune-up has been completed, customers ...can pick up their bike from my driveway at an agreed upon time. Payment can be made by e-transfer or other agreed method. People are pulling out bikes that have been hung up for years. I’ve recently been brought bikes with shifters that stopped working. Old grease and grime gummed up the gears and springs. Fortunately I was able to remove them and give them a deep cleaning in an ultrasonic cleaner. See the photo of dried up old grease etc.

I’ve been making spokes to fix a customers bikes the last couple days. This little tool is not used often but is great when spokes are broken. The tool is placed in a vice and the blank spoke is inserted into the holding jaw and the tool is then cranked onto the spoke and the proper thread is rolled. When done the spoke is removed then the thread is treated and is ready to be inserted into the wheel. Then the wheel gets trued up and put back on the bike.

I will be closed from Thursday 23 - Sunday 26 of July.

I just finished restoring this Peugeot yesterday. Every piece was removed and built back up. These are big jobs to do but satisfying knowing bearings are new with fresh grease and performing the best they can. This bike is from late 60s maybe early 70s

The Campbellford Bicycle Repair Shop will not be taking any bikes in till the 29th of June 2020. We will complete the work on all bikes we presently have in for repair. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause our clients.

Keeping very busy at the shop. Lots of bikes in for tuneups that have been dormant for years. Here is another set of shifters that were gummed up. They are now clean and ready to be cabled up and put back together.

Time for me to begin restoration on this vintage road bike. Acquired it last year. Stripped parts off it and it appears it will build up like new. Now all the parts are off, inspection begins and it is solid. Cleaning and waxing will begin today.

This is the time of year most bicycle riders put their bikes away till spring. Sad indeed. I would like to thank all those customers that trusted me with their precious bikes for repairs and tune-ups. I am still able to do repairs this time of year by appointment. Bicycle art!!! I found myself at Quilt Canada this week. While I know a bit about quilts because my wife is a quilter, I was surprised to see these 2 quilts. They are bits of fabric put together in different ways to form these beautiful pictures. These are among the best in Canada. The creators are very skilful artists. Enjoy

Here is a Kick Bike that came into the shop for a bit of work. The first kick bike I ever worked on.

One of the bikes I started to restore in the winter I just finished up. The new tires and shift cable are now done. The vintage CCM Foldup is now done. I wonder if anyone will want it?

I guess the design was improved and we now have roller skates/blades

My grandsons came for a visit and wanted to do some bike riding. So I got some bikes I had on hand that fit them and they rode around my house all afternoon in the sunshine.

This Trek 820 was in for a tune up and new tires. It needed a new brake cable too. Owner was pleased with the work done a quick turn around. It was in one day picked up the next day. Biking season is about to begin. Get your bike checked over and be ready to ride and enjoy it!

Last week I was given a bicycle, a Raleigh Superbe. It is dated 1972 and is an old school 3 speed. The kind I saw as a child. It is in poor shape but I will put it on my project list for next winter. It deserves a clean up. I wonder if anyone will ever want an old bike like this. Perhaps. Comment if you remember bikes like this. Thanks

I got the folding bike all back together. Just need to put on new tires and a new shift cable. I will order those parts in the new year. Ill have to get going on another bike. I have a few in my garage to fix up. I need to build a couple wheels too.

Sometimes a great vintage bike needs to be put down before its time. Neglect, rain, rust and not being used will kill a bike. So sad really. I got a bike given to me that was in poor shape. A Miele road bike. The only way I could determine the make was through the name on the brake callipers. I harvested some parts off it. Shown are photos of the Shimano derailleurs and shifters. They have been cleaned up and I am getting the limit screws unsized. I don't know if the frame is worth keeping. The brake callipers broke and will be kept for parts only. What a shame.

Folding bike update. Bike parts have been cleaned up and turned out quite nice. Wheels cleaned up excellent as I was able to get the surface rust all off and the rims shine! New brake cables installed. Rear sprocket was removed and old oil and grease cleaned off. New bearings and fresh grease in bottom bracket and front wheel. New tires and shift cable and housing will be ordered and installed at a later date. I'm very happy with this makeover. Enjoy the photos! Pedals and handgrips have not been re-installed yet

My shop is quiet this time of year as expected. So I'm in the process of restoring a vintage folding bike. It is a CCM with a Sturmey Archer 3 speed internal hub. It is a cool purple colour. I got this bike a few weeks ago in Milton Ontario. A nice fellow there had it advertised on Kijiji. The picture below shows the bike stripped down with all the parts off. I will clean the parts - there is a bit of surface rust to remove and old grease to clean off. I polished the frame to remove oxidization. Then a bit of wax to help protect it so it lasts for another 40 years. I'll post more photos as this project goes along.

Photos from the Canadian Cyclocross Championship in Peterborough Saturday 10th of Nov 2018. Exciting to watch the racers on the muddy track. It was a cold windy day.

Just putting this old 'Free Spirt' bike back together. Cleaning it up, new bearings and grease, bit of rust removal and a drop of oil in the right places. New cables and housing will be installed too along with some new tires and tubes. The wheels need some attention too. Maybe new spokes. Definitely new bearings and grease. Maybe paint the fenders - hard to know if that should be done. I probably will cause I would like someone to like and ride the bike.

This bike came in for an overhaul. The bottom bracket was worn out and seized. Here is a photo of the rust and old bearings. We got it fixed and the bike is now ready to be enjoyed.
