For those of you following my regular chart, the BILLCS Top 30, then my #1 song of 2019 is no surprise. From my favourite album of the year Ascend, "Good Things Fall Apart" by Illenium & Jon Bellion had it all for me - electronic wizardry, rocking guitars, progressive backdrop, great vocals, and terrific songwriting that made you sing along. nIn edition #596 of the BILLCS Top 30, I realized this week that almost half of my chart consists of either fully independent releases by the artists themselves, or independent releases outside of a major label. This continues to show that the best new music is outside of what major labels are releasing and what radio stations are playing. Take a read through the opening remarks in my blog post. The top of the chart remains the same with Joel Corry & MNEKs former UK #1 "Hea...d & Heart", but watch out for another banger in the form of Karen Harding & Digital Farm Animals "Undo My Heart", which climbs 10-4. The fastest riser on the chart is the frenetic and highly danceable sax-filled instrumental "House Is Happiness" by German producer Stan Sax, which climbs 27-18. Hes one half of production duo Saxity, which has graced my chart a number of times, particularly with "Brothers" which got to #3 in early 2017. I have two debuts by relatively new artists. At #25 is L.A. trio FAMES with a terrific pop single called "scared of the dark". And at #27 is the warm progressive electronic dance single "We Are Home" by Floridian singer/actress/songwriter Lauren Mayhew (who has also announced and sang the US national anthem at a number of WWE matches over the years!) and Moroccan teen producer Mariline. In Edition #595 of the BILLCS Top 30, theres a huge switcheroo at the top of the chart as Joel Corry & MNEKs #1 UK hit "Head & Heart" soars 6-1 while Lady Gaga & Ariana Grandes "Rain On Me" tumbles 1-6 after spending 4 appearances (8 weeks on top). Its the first time in quite a while since my #1 has been aligned with the top of the UK charts. The fastest riser on the chart is a big banger - "Undo My Heart" by British artists Karen Harding & Digital Farm Animals, vaulting ...23-10. New to the chart: The title song from Troye Sivans "In A Dream" EP at #26. None of the preceding singles sank in with me, but the title song is gorgeous, and the EP works well in a full listen; An outstanding, frantic sax-filled dance instrumental by German producer Stan Sax called "House Is Happiness". Stan has appeared before on my chart - as one half of the production duo Saxity, and more recently as alter ego ZEROBADDAYS; From the same management group that has brought us the Grammy-winning YEBBA, its Philadelphia trio Time for Three with "Vertigo" at #28. With the BILLCS Top 30 edition #594, its my last week in my day job as I close off my career in HR in education! I couldnt have had a better chart in place at the same time as this occasion. Lady Gaga & Ariana Grandes "Rain On Me" reigns supreme for a 4th appearance (8th week) at #1. Also locked in at #2 is the insanely catchy "Never Let Me Down" by VIZE and Tom Gregory.
