We came across this nifty 1.93ct Galaxy diamond that combined two of our favourite things; rose cuts and ovals! Only managed to hold onto it for about a week when someone else fell in love with it and got us to build this ring around it! This was the very first COVID special order we got. It came in when nothing was operating including us. The person who ordered it has been so patient with the entire process. We are so grateful for our wonderful customers! We can see the light at the end of this tunnel and hope all of you see it too!

Today we check in with the Le Boeufs, Adam and his youngest son AJ spent some time making extraterrestrial chalk art! Hope everyone else is getting outside to enjoy this finally fabulous weather!!

Today we check in with Shannon, our head goldsmith who has been with us for 19 years! Henry and Gord have been providing a great deal of entertainment. Especially Gord (black and white) who has been doing the puppy thing, wrecking everything he can get his mouth around! When she isn't scolding him Shan has taken up needle point and has finally finished her wicked back splash made from antique ceiling tiles!

We wanted to thank Tracey from ZuZu Fashion Boutique who has been a driving force in supporting the Downtown! She keeps going out of her way to draw attention to the heart of our city and we are so grateful for her creativity and relentless enthusiasm!! You are an asset to our city Tracey!

We’ve also rigged up our own iPhone macro camera with the help of a 4x loupe (pretty impressive results I’d say!). In today's edition of Where Are They Now? we check in with Barb, our office manager and her hubby Bill. They've been taking walks in their country neighbourhood, visiting the neighbour's horses, and watching their garden green. Barb has been with us for more than 40 years! Looking forward to seeing you again soon!

The Silver Screen was responsible for setting a lot of jewellery trends that are still popular today, for a surprisingly practical reason. The movie makers of the time found out very quickly that traditional yellow gold and faceted coloured gems got lost in the grey tones of the film. The gems were dark and lifeless and the gold dull. They switched to all white metals, bright diamonds, and oversized strands of white pearls and the results were eye catching. As the starlets of the Golden Age of Hollywood became more popular so too did their on and off screen fashions. Soon platinum and white gold were all the rage, sparking the all white pallet of Art Deco jewellery.

The RVH Foundation has always been a close cause for all of us at Bill Le Boeuf Jewellers. When we came upon these 1 gram 10K yellow gold charms in our back room we felt it was too serendipitous to overlook. So we will be donating the entire proceeds from each $100 charm sold (there are only three unfortunately) back to the Team RVH. Art Nouveau is our second favorite aesthetic! It was at its peak between 1890 to 1910. The goldsmiths of the movement rejected the traditionally valuable materials like diamonds, emerald, and sapphire. Opting for semi precious gemstones and even coloured glass. They often worked in lower karat golds in order to get a greater variety of gold tones. What's interesting is the resurgence we are seeing of this mindset in modern jewellery! Many consumers are rejecting traditionally valuable materials again in favour of a unique story and colour!

Whatever struggles we are having staying at home we should try to remember it's for them. I can't imagine the courage and fortitude it takes for essential workers to put themselves at risk every day. These oldies were taken in 1986, we were having a special giveaway. You can see all the contestants names on placards around the store. The first picture is Vici Huxtable with a customer, she was Bill Le Boeufs first employee ever. The second shows Linda Chislett and Bob Le Boeuf.

If you've ever seen this E stamped on an heirloom piece that was handed down to you it means it came from Eatons. We've had a number of them over the years, many from the Art Deco period. But Eatons was more than jewellery, the Canadian firm was once one of the biggest department store chain in North America. At its peak it employed 70,000 people and its mail order catalogues could be found in every Canadian home. The widespread rural nature of our country at the time was grateful to have the same luxuries available at their doorstep as could be found in big cities. Eatons offered ready-to-order items that ranged from clothing, dry goods, home medical devices, appliances, farm equipment, even assemble yourself houses! The retail giant ran for 130 years until finally declaring bankruptcy in 1999.
