There are two species of Carpenter ants in Alberta. They both bore wood to build nests, but do not actually consume the wood material. They remove it from the galleries they bore and drop it outside the nest. In structures, this can lead to piles of sawdust known as frass. Fruit flies, Drain flies and Phorid flies together are known as small flies. Most small fly infestations are the result of sanitation in need of improvement. They breed in organic matter. Clean your drains, clean the inside of the garbage can and remove those old potatoes in the back of the cupboard to help in removing breeding sites.
