I'm happy to finally announce, the Birds Of Canada radio show is making a comeback! After an 8 year hiatus and many many life changes I'm rehosting the show on CIVL with a new format focusing on a few artists per week. Stay tuned for the first new episode, arriving mid-november! A huge thanks to Simon Bridgefoot for composing an official theme song for the new show :)

Many of my friends, or perhaps none of my friends, have even heard of Burger Records, so the news that they're shuttin down ain't no thing. Shame, controversy, trauma faced by behaviors by artists in their roster aside, Burger did gift me with one of my all time favorite discoveries. So long Burger, and thanks for introducing me to Summer Twins :) https://summertwins.bandcamp.com/

Happy #Nationalindigenouspeoplesday folks. . It would have been so easy to make a post about father’s day - about my old man, and how much I appreciate him and ...the lessons he has taught me - but this feels like the more important post today. . I spend a lot of time thinking about how I’m living on stolen land that my ancestors took - currently the traditional lands of the Anishnaabeg, Ojibwe and Chippewa people. Some days these thoughts consume me - and think they should be consuming all of us. I’m learning. Growing. Teaching my kids about the things that our people did wrong and the wrongs that were (and still are being) done against Canada’s indigenous people - and also how important it is to acknowledge and celebrate Canada’s indigenous people and their traditions. . So on that note, if you’re looking for somewhere to start, this might be a good place. Light In The Attic Records put out this collection of songs back in 2014 - I came across it by way of my friend Chris Sleightholm. Native North America is an incredible 3 LP collection of Indigenous Folk, Rock and Country songs that feel as alive as the day they were written. This album introduced me to some incredible artists that I probably wouldn’t have encountered otherwise - Willy Dunn, Willy Mitchell, Lloyd Cheechoo, Ernest Monias and many others. This music is so important and I’m thankful to have a copy in my possession. If you haven’t heard this album, today is a good day to listen. See more

I’m all for US Girls, Sarah Harmer, and Joel Plaskett on this year’s ballot. Bruce Peninsula really ought to be here.
