Merlin and Smog (my dragon) are heading back to work entertaining at Birthday Parties and special events for October 2020 and beyond (remember - Halloween isn’t too far away!). We have been off the past two months reorganizing our show with you and your family’s safety in mind. The kids are back in school now (or zoom learning) and it’s time to party responsibly in small groups with friends and family! Yes, these are strange and trying times, but starting in October, Smog and... I are available WITH strict social distancing. Although the show is live, there is no direct contact with any of the audience, but old fashioned fun is still what we do! We are located in the Lower Mainland (Vancouver B.C.) and can be at your party within a reasonable travel distance (no in U.S. clients please!). Hi everyone! I hope you are all staying safe and healthy. It looked like things were starting to improve and and a return to normal imminent, but unfortunately that just isn’t the case and we all will have to live with some drastic changes in our lives for the foreseeable future in order to get through this pandemic. Although I was able to change my show methods and had been doing birthday parties this past month (at a distance of course with the proper precautions), I will be out of order and unable to perform for at least the next couple of months. At the end of this week I am getting hip surgery, but will be back in time for the Halloween season! Please keep Merlin in mind for October!!!! All the best to all of you - and see you soon!

Hello Muggles! Merlin the Magician here! I hope everyone has been keeping healthy and safe since the pandemic first appeared. B.C. is showing incredibly low numbers concerning the spread of Covid-19, and I would like to congratulate all British Columbians for taking social distancing to heart, washing your hands and wearing face masks in public places. Keeping our borders closed and avoiding large get-togethers with friends and family (and sporting events!) may be maddening... to some, but I think we all realize that this isn’t over yet - and it may not be for some time. We can take a lesson from our friends to the South who unfortunately opened large public events and venues far too early, and are now experiencing unprecedented numbers of Covid-19 sufferers. Our lives have changed drastically over the last few months and most of us have had to alter as to how we conduct our daily lives. There is a light at the end of the tunnel! As a comedy magic performer for many years, I too had to shut down for the last few months - but now, with changes to keep everyone at a safe distance and added enhanced hygiene control, people are once again having small birthday parties for their children as well as other family and friends gatherings - keeping in mind the new rules. Hi Everyone! I have been invited to participate in a virtual At-Home Picnic this coming Saturday, sponsored by B.C. Parks Foundation (go to their Facebook page). I will be live-streaming through my Facebook feed (Merlin the Magician) in the afternoon for a mini-show at 1:55pm that will go for approximately 15 minutes. So...... grab your kids, sit on the floor with a peanut butter sandwich, or some cheese and crackers and something good to drink and join me on my Facebook Live feed for a fun time!

Merlin and dragon Smog performing at the Riverdale Elementary School PAC fundraiser last month (February 28th) in Surrey BC. Hey folks - even with the current furor going on, it’s still business as usual! Yes, there is a ban on public gatherings (groups of 250 or more), but there is no reason not to hold your child’s in-home birthday celebration as long as simple proper precautions are taken. Most birthday parties generally have 10 to 13 children with a few parents, or a smal...l gathering of family and friends. Just eliminate or adjust finger foods so everyone is not sharing the same bowl (such as potato chips etc.) and offer individual servings. Ask that any guest not feeling well or with a cold stay home and take care of themselves. Stay healthy, but use common sense and don’t let the panic ruin your child’s birthday! Happy New Year everyone - and Happy Ukrainian Christmas (January 7th)! My wife Georgina is of Ukrainian descent, so our tree and decorations are still up and won’t come down until tomorrow. Merlin was extremely busy during the months of November and December, and has been taking it easy for the last week before getting right back at it for several birthday celebration shows this coming week end. Even though the weather on the Lower Mainland has been miserable this last littl...e while (wet and cold!), my dragon Smog is raring to get out and help perform at the upcoming shows! This year (2020) will see some new changes to the show (some of the audience favourites will remain) so if you have had me perform for your child’s party, day care, school, or special event, there will definitely be new things you haven’t seen! Come see Merlin host a great Halloween show this coming Monday, October 21st! Tickets at the door - Adults $10 and kids under 12 free! Kids wear your Halloween costume and win a prize! July has been pretty busy for Merlin this year! Only a few more appearances to do at day camps and birthday parties - then in a week and a half, it’s off to join 1,600 other magical friends in LasVegas for a magic convention called Magic Live!. Here’s a couple of pictures of some recent shows.

Last night I received a lovely letter from Sarah. Merlin performed at her birthday party a couple of week-ends ago. She had written to me on the blank back side of the colouring page I had given her, and coloured in the cartoon of Smog and I on the other side. The big red marks you see on the letter portion is from the red felt pen that had leaked through to the other side, but she managed to print around it. Merlin does look a little yellow, but I guess the Simpsons do too! Her Mom took the time to take a picture of both sides of the sheet and send it to me. Thanks Sarah and Sarah’s Mom! June has so far been a very busy month for Merlin! He and his sidekick Smog (a baby dragon only 100 years old!) have been to the four corners of the Fraser Valley performing for birthday parties and family functions - and lots more booked including a few day camps, child care facilities and community centres (one teaching magic too!). Here’s a few pictures of a backyard party I did yesterday ..... the Grandma went wild with the decorating turning it into a Princess/Wizard party. The little girl had just turned four and she and her friends were all dressed up in their Disney princess finery! They were great (and very cute) - and the Moms had a good time too! One of the Moms was amazed that I could hold their attention for the full hour - she said that their daycare teacher couldn’t do that!
