Bishops College partner with NCC to leave a Legacy Photo: Tyler Dalton, Machaela McDonald, Mark Hewitt, Anne Murphy, Yvonne Dawe, Jennifer Strickland, Amanda (Walsh) Craig Teachers and students of the former Bishops College gathered at the Salmonier Nature Reserve for the unveiling of the signage on the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) property. In 2011, after learning that Bishops College would close in 2015, the school began a unique partnership with the NCC to raise fund...s to preserve land in NL. The school set out to raise $5000 for the NCC and would be acknowledged on the signage at the property. This Legacy Project, a schoolwide initiative, was led by members of the Youth Action Committee, an award-winning student volunteer group (2011 NL U-Rock Volunteer Youth Group of the Year). Monies were raised through school fundraisers ($3000), a $1000 prize the school received with its 2012 NL Environmental Award, as well as $1000 the Scotia Centre won with its 2012 NL Environmental Award and donated to Bishops. Representatives at the unveiling included Tyler Dalton (Class of 2011), Macheala McDonald (Class of 2015), Mark Hewitt (Class of 2014), Jennifer Strickland (Class of 2000) and teacher sponsors of the Youth Action Committee, Anne Murphy, Yvonne Dawe and Amanda (Walsh) Craig.
