In only 8 days, a collaborative research team in Sherbrooke has developed, assembled, and successfully tested the #BreatHere ventilator from readily available, ...abundant, and locally-sourced parts. Built within the framework of the Code Life Ventilator Challenge of the Montreal General Hospital Foundation, the project allows the 3D-printed, robust, and medically-sound ventilator’s production to be quickly ramped-up if the need arose because of #COVID19. The team of nine engineers, medical professionals, multiple professors, graduate and undergraduate students graciously provided materials, tools, workspaces, or expertise in order to accomplish the project; #UBishops, Université de Sherbrooke, Cégep de Sherbrooke, ÉlectroMag, RS Conception inc. , Arjo, ESA and Orixha. Bishop’s Canada Research Chair Dr. Matthew Peros supplied a 3D printer, while UBERG and Bruno Courtemanche devoted their time, stock, and an additional 3D resin printer. Local companies will provide the necessary equipment and manufacturing capabilities to ensure the rapid production of 1000 units per week. #codelifechallenge
