I'm reposting this link because it's definitely worth watching. Link is at the bottom of this post. This Fireweed Creative documentary featured on CBC does a g...ood job showing the process of bringing bison back to Banff National Park and a lot of the back and forth discussion that took place between advocates and those opposed. It does fall short, in my opinion, with regards to recognizing the fact that wild bison and the related conservation discussions have existed in Canada since well before the Banff idea, and kind of suggests that Banff is the only place this work is happening. The documentary misses the chance to suggest that many of the questions they are asking have actually been asked in Saskatchewan for close to 50 years. Nor does it mention that in some cases, solutions to these questions have been arrived at through the work done with the Sturgeon River herd. That aside, bringing bison back to Banff is a great initiative that I'm proud to have played a part in. And this is truly a beautiful documentary, despite the fact that I'm one of the featured 'experts'. Enjoy the show and let me know your thoughts. http://watch.cbc.ca/absolutely-canadi//38e815a-00ce9624b64

Some amazing work here by Prince Albert National Park (Parks Canada) and the youth from Ahtahkakoop and Wahpeton First Nations, exchanging current and historical knowledge on Plains bison on the West Side of the Park.

The Blackfeet Nation Buffalo Program moved the herd of 400 buffalo to their summer pasture at a nice and easy pace to accomodate our 50+ new calves. Blackfeet p...hotographers Teri Dahl and Dylan DesRosier were also there getting some nice shots. Thanks to the both of them for documenting this wonderful occasion. We will post some videos soon. A big thank you to Sheldon Carlson, our herd manager, for organizing the drive. In October we will herd the buffalo back to the winter pasture on the Two Medicine river. Information about tickets for the Fall Drive will be posted later this summer. Photos by Leona Tracey of the Iinnii Initiative
