Libraries everywhere are exploring program ideas to meet the needs of their patrons. Take and make kits have become very popular. We are very fortunate to be able to offer several kits thanks to the generous support of Johnston Agencies. We kicked off the year with a couple kits geared toward younger kids. They did a unicorn kit in January followed by a Groundhog Day activity kit. We are currently offering a paracord bracelet kit for kids ages 8 and up and airplants for adults. Watch for pictures later this week of the finished bracelets. Keep checking our website and facebook for more information about upcoming kits. Thanks again to Amber and Johnston Agencies for sponsoring these activities!
Congratulations to the families who have signed up for the "1000 Books Before Kindergarten" program. We would love to see more families involved in this program. To sign up and receive your reading log book, please call the library, 306-886-2119. In the front of the logbook there is a list of some recommended children's books. Many of these books are familiar to me, but some I have never read. Ashley has several of these books on display so I picked up " I Stink" by Kate... and Jim McMullan. If you have ever been in the city and listened to the garbage trucks rumble through town you will easily relate to "Did I wake you? Too bad!" Your children will enjoy imagining "Crush them! Mash them" Smash them" Whoa, those bags are way compacted!". The list of alphabet soup garbage will elicit responses of "eeww" or "gross" from both you and your child as you view the pictures of dirty diapers, eggshells, fish heads, and gobs of gum. It's a good reminder of the importance of the garbage truck. Have fun reading this book along with many others with your child! See more
Sarah Jio always delivers a great story. I think I have read all of her books finishing All the Flowers in Paris this weekend. She tells the stories of two women in different decades - Celina during World War II and Caroline in modern day weaving their lives together. This might be my favorite Sarah Jio book although I would be hard pressed to choose. Blackberry Winter was the first one I read and it hooked me on her books. If you have never read one of her books, I woul...d definitely recommend you pick one up. I also read Pam Jenoff's The Orphan's Tale this weekend. (Yes, I spend way too much time reading and not nearly enough time cleaning my house!) This book was also set during World War II. One of the main characters, Noa finds a railcar full of babies and saves one of them. She later joins the circus where she meets Astrid, the other main character. The story is full of love and loss and the tragedies of war. This is the second Pam Jenoff book I have read. After reading The Orphan's Tale I ordered a few more of her books on my Wapiti Library card. Please share your favorite books and recommendations with your fellow readers by adding a post. Happy reading, everyone! Sherry

Are you a Karen Robards fan? Many of her books are romantic suspense, but her newest release is historical fiction. The Black Swan of Paris is set in France during WWII. The lead character is a singer who becomes involved in the Resistance. If you enjoy historical fiction with a bit of romance give this book a try.
