Looking at an image out of an SLR, even viewed at a small scale, is like tasting a real apple picked fresh from a tree. This is compared to processed 'Fast Food' and the latest 'not from concentrate Orange Juice' prevalent now a days - the ubiquitous cell phone images and video, by anology. A common myth is that DSLR is *only* beneficial if you are planning to make crystal clear three feet long prints to hang on your wall. Yes, it does enable you to make beautiful large prints, but extends beyond this application. Even looking at images posted on the web, it is easy to recognize press images taken with exceptional quality lenses and system cameras. One aspect you may notice is the superiour depth of field rendition - naturally separating an object from the background. Low light street scenes with any significant activity, are almost impossible to capture very clearly without a digital SLR or equivalent. The entire SLR system ( Larger sensor, choice of an exemplary line of lenses, on board dedicated real time image processing, high quality shutter and focusing accuracy and dependability ) produces truer images, with greater fidelity, outstanding contrast and dynamic range, and much more room for editing the image in Photoshop - even for displaying on Web or Smaller Magazine size prints. It is baffling to see those who go on Safari, a trek to Algonquin park, or even Whale Watching, and spend hours taking cell phone footage, without the proper camera and/or video gear. It is like spending all this time to bake a cake, but using lowest quality ingredients. Today, the photographic capabilities of an SLR also extend to video. Many of the newest documentary footage is taken with SLR cameras, which offer oustanding depth of field and cinematic quality with the right lenses. Also you can take outstanding quality still image grabs out of the latest 4K cinema cameras like the Panaosnic GH4 and Canon 1Dc ( all in our current product offerings). I took the image of our store presented here with a Nikon D800 and Nikkor 24mm PC-E Fixed Lens. The naturally blurred foreground and background allows our store to stand out in a special way.
