I recently realized I have never introduced myself on here and it seems about time I did! Hi I'm Lavina (pronounced: la-VINE-ah and mispronounced by about 95% of people when they first meet me ). You can remember how to say my name by thinking: *florist(flowers/plants) = say "vine" in the middle of the name* I first happened into floristry while in university and I got a part-time job in the floral department of a grocery store. Being a florist wasn't a career I had ever ...really considered before that, but I found the creative side of the job really meshed with me. I took some time after graduating university to travel, moved to the UK for 2 years, and worked as a florist in a couple different flower shops in different cities as I traveled around. I learned a LOT from these experiences, and would say my time working in the UK is what has influenced my current floral style the most. When I returned to Hamilton I worked at a local florists for a little while before setting out on my own last year. I knew I wanted to work for myself and that my main focus would be on wedding and event florals. I have a home-based studio and (people often ask me questions about this when they find out what I do) no plans to open a retail storefront. I am very excited to be moving into a larger studio space next month! When not working with flowers you can usually find me knitting, crocheting, or working on some other sort of craft project. I love to be creative and hands-on and that's how I choose to spend as much of both my working and free time as possible. I am also going to try my hand at growing a small cut flower garden this summer and am soooo excited for spring to finally get here so I can get started! This was the first microwedding I did last year and it was so much fun! Everything about this arbour piece and bouquet were made with S in mind. She loved the idea of a wildflower look with pops of colour, and this is how it turned out! I wanted to compliment her style, but also not take any of the focus away from her.
