Our community hall is in desperate need of community volunteers to assist with weeding the gardens and general yard care - due to the COVID restrictions the hall has lost all of it incoming revenues that our assoc. requires to maintain this building. Please consider stopping by anytime over the summer to help us keep these grounds clean.

BLACKBURN COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT URGENT NEWS To all community members on the east side of the city who use and enjoy having the Blackburn Community Hall as a local facility. 6 years ago, the board of the hall announced that they were stepping back as a group as they had run the hall as long as they could handle with no new members/help. A group of volunteers stepped up at that time and took over operations. In that time, they managed to renovate that hall and completely resto...re the financials and build a $750,000 bike park too boot. However, the existing board has dropped one by one from a group of 13 to 6 remaining as they each had lives they had to deal with. They served their time and should be allowed to pass the torch! The pleasure of running the hall should be shared by the larger community but this is not occurring. The current 6 volunteers are all extremely active business owners or in professional occupations and 5 of them have families they are raising at the same time. The past AGM has one single community member attend and they did not want to volunteer but simply to observe. The hall is in good standing at this time but desperately needs some energy and time dedicated to it to solve a couple of issues. If we can’t find some new fresh help, there is a risk that you will lose the hall you all enjoy. 1- Our recent gaming grant application was declined due to a few technical errors that were misunderstood when completed. We need someone with accounting/bookkeeping/legal expertise to submit a correction, so those funds can be received. The funds from gaming are essential to keeping the hall open so this is urgent. 2- We need 6 new board members to step in so that the existing board can have some room for a few of those who need to step back without placing even more work onto the shoulders of the remaining members. Please PM us if you have the ability to help with the grants or attend the AGM on Feb 20th at 5:20pm at the Blackburn Community Hall to step up to help.

Floor Hockey for 12 - 16 year olds at the Blackburn Elementary School has been cancelled due to low registration.

Hey PG we have a new partner helping run events and weddings at the Blackburn. Thank you to the best event planner in the North, Lisa Morgan, for helping us make the hall pro with Enchanted Event Design and Rentals
