Members of the community have put together a special Halloween Scavenger Hunt of items you can find on certain streets all over Blackburn! NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH The Blackburn Hamlet Community Association is reaching out once again to its community to get involved with community safety through the Neighborhood Watch (NW) program. Recent events suggest that all of us in the community must enhance our security awareness to our surroundings and the NW program is one of the proven means to accomplish this goal. The NW program is designed to help neighbors help neighbors. Who best to know your community than you? When w...e as a community work together we can combat crime in a most effective manner before it starts. By your involvement we can discourage and prevent crime at the local level. However, our success depends largely on a commitment by the area residents and the police. With the NW program here are some of the goals we can achieve: (1) Make our homes less inviting as a target for thieves when we are at home or away; (2) Recognize and report suspicious activity in the neighborhood; (3) Help to ensure your fellow citizen feels safe in a secure neighborhood. The NW program is a group of Volunteers who take pride in their community. You become the eyes on the streets and backyards of our community by gathering information about possible crime activity, suspicious individuals and suspected damage to property. The NCC will be doing some work near the Hamlet (along the Green's Creek trails) this coming week, as part of their efforts to control the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer. Trails won't be closed, but it might be good to know! Below is a copy of the message sent by the NCC to our community: "Hello, As part of its emerald ash borer management strategy, the National Capital Commission (NCC) will be removing 133 ash trees affected by the emerald ash borer in the Green’s Creek sec...tor in the eastern Greenbelt. Dead trees of other species may also be removed to improve access and allow a safe work environment for the crew undertaking the work. The work, which will start on August 17, 2020, and continue for a period of five to seven days, will be undertaken between 7 am and 5 pm, weather permitting. The work will not require the closure of pathway sections. Signage will be in place, and staff will be on-site. Roadside work along Bearbrook Road will be undertaken with a bucket truck. Tree tops will be removed and left on-site to decompose, with stemwood left standing as habitat. Where access permits along the Greenbelt Pathway East, a truck and chipper will be used, with chipped materials left on-site to decompose. Where mechanized access is not possible, crews will be felling trees using chainsaws, with materials being managed on-site to mimic a natural setting. Once natural regeneration has begun, we will re-evaluate the corridor to determine tree planting needs, as we will be in a better position to assess the situation at that time. Today we presented our community’s Food Bank with the monies raised from this summer’s Virtual Fun Run. $728.30 will go towards helping those in need. Thank you to all those who participated

The UTG Digital Media LED trailer is set up at the corner of Bearbrook and Innes displaying a presentation of our grads! Come check it out and take a picture! The billboard trailer will leave at 10:00 am to drive on all the streets with grads. If you want to follow behind it, be at 110 Bearbrook before 10:00 am. At 11:00 am, start making your way back to the corner of Innes and Bearbrook for a socially distant group photo and to listen to some tunes . Tomorrow at 8am, UTG Digital Media will have their LED Trailer set up for everyone to view at the intersection of Bearbrook and Innes! The LED Trailer will be touring our route of grads starting at 10am. If you arrive before then, you can follow along in your car or bike too! ** Arrive before 10am at 110 Bearbrook if you would like to follow the trailer along the route! **... After the neighbourhood tour, the trailer will be stationed again in the centre of our community until noon, for people to come by and view the mobile presentation of our grads. #UTGdigitalmedia #BlackburnGrads
