Scrolling through some pics from last night @polar_drive while I pump some coffee into my veins in prep for a busy day of final xmas errands. Every year we grab a Tims and head out to look at the Christmas lights in our small town. This year, we upped the ante and went to a #TO parking garage for a similar experience. Long drive for a short drive, but in good company, and it was pretty great.

Why do we buy our tenants holiday gifts? Because they’re not just numbers. We’re in a mutually beneficial relationship. We break the rules and become emotionally attached to our properties. We care about the people, not just the and cents. We enjoy what we do. We’ve invested our time and our money into these buildings, as a savings plan, to provide for our future and our families. And our tenants are their stewards. So why wouldn’t we be emotionally attached, and care a...bout the humans in our properties? And it’s just a good goddamned feeling to be responsive to their needs, care about them as humans, and provide a good home. Today I did #snowforshow. I shovelled the driveway when it was absolutely not required. Why? The Blackdog had surgery this fall and has been off his feet for a few months. This is why (aside from the obvious #2020 reasons) there’ve been no projects this year, and very few social posts. Surgery was schedule for April, but then ... #covid_19, and we took it easy as opposed to ripping into anything too big. The surgery has been an added dimension to the year for sure - all inde...pendent woman over here until one has to manage every task by oneself, from crawling around in the attic trying to identify the water leak source, to taking dog and garbage out every time, shuttling to #TO for appointments, and generally looking after all things requiring movement. A good reminder of how nice it is to have a partner. But there is some weight bearing happening now, and it’s a god-damned Christmas miracle and I can’t wait for spring. Bringing us back to the driveway: my lovely neighbour (who has a few decades on me) seems to think the little lady can’t operate the snow blower by herself, and I can’t bear to ask him to stop helping, that our gravel drive (as opposed to his paved), just needs a frozen base so that I’m not raking gravel off the lawn until June.
