Good morning! Alexa's rolling up the morning buns, preorders are getting packed, we're getting our take out window ready for opening at 10am! Note that red zone or grey zone, we maintain the same system. Porch side service only for both preorder and take out, with no indoor traffic at all. Our preorder service runs off our website and is live from Mon 9am - Thurs @ midnight. Once you pay for an order online, you're reserving items for a specific pick up date + time slot s...o we can safely space out the traffic. Pick ups are arranged at our front door from Wed - Sat 12 noon - 5pm. Our take out window is a separate outdoor line that is for casual "drop ins" and operates as first come first serve (no reservation). Here you also get our full line up of beverages The window is open Wed - Sat 10am - 5pm. Note a mask is required for both services, and please allow eachother a 2m space. January is slow. January is quiet. Such a welcomed change of pace from December. It's a perfect time for us to renew our energy, refresh our minds and repaint our walls. We're nearing the end of our winter break and getting ready to start a new year of baking! We'll be reopening on Wednesday January 20th @ 10am for take out service as usual. Our makivnyk is a Ukrainian style poppy seed tea roll. Although not traditionally a Christmas treat, in our family it was always so special when we managed to get one from Rideau Bakery years ago. We now make our own version of it with toasted walnuts, honey from Canaan Rd Farms, raisins and ground poppy seeds. ... Rolled up in a rich brioche dough and brushed with a honey glaze, this lightly sweetened bread is a perfect snack for afternoon tea. It is labour intensive, but anything worth while rooted in such long family traditions always is. New bakery manager toy ! WIFI freezer alarms!! Being an old house we don't have alot of space for walk-in freezers, so we have about 16 (!!) freezers and fridges scattered about our 160 yr old building. And it's stressful when a freezer gets accidentally unplugged and you have to chuck wasted ingredients unnecessarily! No more!! Thank you @thermoworks - I'm positively thrilled!

Today was a stressful day. And it's hard to focus on what's important. Be kind, give yourself a break and savour the simple things. Our holiday sweet potato buns are back in the house. I started making these golden buns in my university days. Baking helped relieve my stress so I would bake off a few dozen and they were pretty much my only sustenance during exams. Warm from the oven, covered with butter, these are addictive. They've been a tradition around the holidays for me... now for almost 16 years and counting. And they make the best cold turkey sandwiches! Made with roasted sweet potato and enriched with butter and eggs, these buns are hella good. We are making them fresh daily for take out. If you're getting some of these in advance, we recommend keeping them stored in an airtight container at room temp for up to 4 days (otherwise freeze them).
