WILD FIRE GARDEN DAMAGE Some helpful tips from our farm: -Wash Fruits and Vegetables before eating (possibly 2-3x) with water and vinegar. ... -Water Garden Plants WELL! Rinse off the leaves BOTH top and underneath to clean off particles. -Ash, as long as it is not "blanket like and thick" should be fine in the soil. (It can however, change the soils PH.) -PROTECT YOUR SOIL from other potential chemicals drifting with the smoke by adding a layer of MULCH. *****Looking for MULCH options: Call 250-832-6615 for more details.***** Photo Credit: Shannon Waite.

Zucchini Fresh from the garden. Probably one of the easiest vegetables to grow. (Perfect for the beginner gardener). ... Also an easy vegetable to cook up in the kitchen. These zucchini plants our planted in our garden soil using our compost for fertilizer. No artificial fertilizers required! Our recipe: -1 - 2 small zucchini’s diced and placed in cast iron skillet. - grate some parmesan and Asiago cheese onto zucchini. - sprinkle some salt and pepper. - drizzle cooking oil of choice or melted butter. - then place in the oven at 375F for 5 min. That’s it Also recommend trying to grill these... so tasty. Maybe even grilled and on your homemade burger
Haha kids in the corn Happy Wednesday.
BEET GREENS Did you know you can eat your beet greens?? Beet greens are packed with VITAMINS and are a source of iron and protein!! ... We EAT them: - fresh in salads - smoothies - soups - sautéed (especially in stir fry) Or - steamed - you can blanch them and freeze them for later use. How WE GROW BEETS: we grow a BIG row with the beets planted close together in our soil. As the beets get crowded we thin the row so the beet head (of the plants left) can get nice, juicy and BIG. The beets thinned (pulled), WE EAT!!
Some of our favourite herbs from our garden. Sage, Calendula, & Lavender.
Do you grow garlic? WE DO! And have for years. If you grow garlic, try harvesting the GARLIC SCAPES. The scapes are the curly tops that straighten as the garlic below the ground becomes ready for harvest. ... Why harvest it? Because removing the scapes while curly will allow your garlic bulbs to grow BIGGER. What to do with the scapes? Try our recipe. -Put scapes in food processor. -Blend. -Put the blended scapes in ice cube trays. -Add olive oil to trays. -Freeze. Use as substitute to garlic in recipes. ENJOY
