Happy #Internationalwomensday to ALL women in the world; women of all races, sizes, ages, voices and stages. Yesterday, @iamjamgamble brought up something that insightful. We have a lot to learn when to comes to #womenempowerment. We’re automatically drawn to sharing the voices that inspire us, that encourage us and benefit us. We share the stories of women who have already overcome the hardship in their life to be where they’re at today but how about the voices that need ou...r help amplify their stories, to encourage them to keep going and our support. We ALL (including myself) have a lot to learn. Women’s empowerment isn’t selective. Women’s empowerment supports ALL. Not just the women that fit our definition of women’s empowerment. So I #choosetochallenge everyone and myself to share stories and voices of not only those who inspire us but also stories that makes us uncomfortable and make us learn. Let’s keep learning so that we can build a better world for our daughters, nieces and every Young girl/woman that look up to us.

When you connect, make your intentions clear. Years ago, my BFF and I connected with an old friend until one day, this person suggested we catch up in person. This person gave us an address to meet at. At the time, BOTH my best friend and I didn’t have our drivers license. So, we bussed to the location, which was a conference hall. I had a gut feeling something weird was happening but I still wanted to give the benefit of the doubt. I texted the person a...nd said we have arrived. The person came out of the conference hall, dressed in formal attire while my BFF and I were not (we were in tights and a hoodie). The person seemed excited and told us to come into the hall. They said This is an interesting conference you might be interested in. It’s fun! Come in. But we insisted on not going in. The person was persistent but we said that we’ll wait for her across the street at Tim Hortons (CDN coffee shop). 1 HR later, my BFF and I realized what we got ourselves into but STILL wanted to give this person the benefit of the doubt. They STILL were insisting that we come into the conference hall for coffee. Finally, we gave the person a firm NO and suggested we meet when they weren’t busy with an event. We were pretty turned off. I’ve been so fortunate to connect with amazing people. I love being able to connect online, especially since this is the only form of connecting these days. I’m always open to hear people’s pitches and even if it’s not for me I will kindly decline and STILL find other ways to support (liking a post, sharing). Be OK with NO. Ditch the guilt trip/deceiving sales tactic. We all value time and resonate with brands that add value to our daily life. Your sales tactic needs to target YOUR brand’s specific demographic or else you’re wasting everyone’s time. P.S. Got my drivers license after that. See more
