The year 2020 was probably the most unusual year in our lifetime. This year, also pushed us to do some things that we wouldn’t have normally have done. The uncertainty of this time definitely guided me outside of my comfort zone. Although, I’m glad to say good-bye to 2020, I’m grateful for many things it brought me. I did lots of photography this year. I participated in #frontstepsproject, which documented the beginning of the pandemic for some families in #ottawa I di...d lots of outdoor shoots for many families in the city - I’m so grateful for this opportunity! I took wayyyyy more photos of my children I started my much procrastinated, much desired project - documenting the stories and photos of refugee, displaced and migrant women. I met and talked with some rad, strong, independent and resilient women who shared their unique stories and gave me the opportunity to hear about their journey. This project started with my own mom! I did a self portrait and started writing about what I remember from my refugee days (a very hard one for me!) Most importantly, I am so grateful that I have a healthy family. 2020 brought me the appreciation of hugging my family and friends. I can’t wait for the day that I can feel my parents’ arms and warmth around me. Let’s hope in 2021, we can see more smiles and less masks. The Future is Equal because we all have seen too many injustices. We’ve seen racism and inequality. As a person of colour, I’ve experienced it a few times, to say the least. Some times, I’ve stood up for myself, other times I was left shocked and speechless. As for my beautiful children and the children of the world, all I want for them is to be treated equally and fairly.
