We are pleased that the federal government has finally agreed to provide some financial relief to Canadians with disabilities. Read more: https://inclusionalber...ta.org//federal-government-to-provi/ **EDIT: We received the following letter from the Minister of Community and Social Services confirming that the payment does not need to be reported as I come to AISH. "As you know, the Government of Canada recently announced a one-time, tax-free, non-reportable payment of $600 to assist with pandemic-related expenses. Details of full eligibility requirements and distribution timing will be confirmed by the federal government. As this payment will be non-reportable income to the Canada Revenue Agency, it is automatically exempt as income for Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped recipients. I am pleased to inform you that Community and Social Services is exempting this future payment as income for Expected to Work and Barriers to Full Employment clients of the Income Support program. This means that benefit levels and eligibility for clients of either program will not be affected by the payment. Our government is proud to work with the disability community to ensure vulnerable Albertans are safe and supported during this pandemic. Sincerely, Rajan Sawhney Minister of Community and Social Services"
