Currently, VGH is the only birthing hospital within Island Health limiting a birthing parent/mother to be accompanied by one support person. This present rule goes against the rights of birthing parents/mothers to have the support of their choice. While not every expecting parent wants to have a second support person at their birth, some very much do, often for deeply personal, cultural, religious, or logistical reasons.
