Frosty sunrise this morning. This recent sunshine is reminding me that spring is coming. We continue to plant seeds in preparation for spring planting.

Blooming Meadows 23.03.2021

Another sunny flower filled memory from this past summer. We had a vision of a dreamy tablescape of white florals placed in a special area on the farm ringed in fruit trees. A reminder that brighter days are ahead. Now jumping to the present, we're hoping our pussy willow is ready for harvest- we'll let everyone know when it is bunched and out on the farmgate stand soon. Dreaming of sweet peas! We grow sweet peas in our hoophouse and the field so that we get to enjoy these sweetly scented beauties for as long as possible. What spring flower are you most looking forward to?

Summer memories captured here by our talented friend and photographer Danielle Cooper @tickaticka. It is such a treat when she comes to shoot at the farm in the golden light. We've recently been in the local newspaper and unfortunately the credit for Danielle's photo was missed. You'll have to check out her stunning dahlia macro images on her page. Do you put on party dresses to frolic in nature?

Before the flowers emerge in force it is a good time to admire foliage. We grow evergreen magnolias for their perfect rich green glossy with a flip side of velvety gold texture. They also have an amazing vase life when cut. As a tree we often recommend the dwarf kind of which you can find many varieties at your favorite garden center. One tip: always study the expected height and width on the tag to make sure your tree will have room to flourish in your garden.

Merry Christmas. Wishing everyone a happy, healthy holiday.

Snow and sunshine, both a rarity around here in the winter. The kids managed to make a snowman and sled down the dykes even with the limited snow. #snowinvancouver #pittmeadowscommunity #winter #wintersunrise #pnw

Evergreen arrangements are back by popular demand! Natural elements used today include cedar, eucalyptus, pine cones, golden backed magnolia leaf and blueberry branch. We enjoyed being back in the studio and are happy to be harvesting on a dry day. Arrangements in golden vessels are $25.00 and out on the stand at 1:30 today.

We are enjoying this crisp, sunny morning. The stand has been stocked with more nature inspired centre pieces. Enjoy your Sunday.

The blue leaf eucalyptus is contrasting with the orange tones of miscanthus grass in Lauren's front yard. We love our eucalyptus for its amazing greenery that combines so well in floral designs. We've been growing Euc. for about four years and have learned a few things: - it grows perennially in our Candian west coast climate - despite being known to like dry roots it seems to thrive in our field that is often water logged in the winter - it takes well to harsh pruning which... may be an adaptation to recover from wild fires in native environments such as Australia - so many beautiful varieties We still wonder if a harsh winter will put an end to our big row of trees in the field (or Lauren's front yard). We'll need to keep sewing seeds indoors just in case we need to replant. Anyone else found success growing a plant that shouldn't survive in our geography?

It has been a difficult time for couples trying to plan weddings this year to say the least. Yet love and celebrations do continue, though maybe they look a bit different than originally envisioned. This past summer we were privileged to be a part of many smaller intimate weddings. There are always opportunities to add meaning to bouquets and boutonnieres. We've been able to incrporate grandma's vintage ribbon, special bells and hand tied fly fishing lures into our wedding florals. Can you spot the special element in these boutonnieres?

Blooming Meadows 09.11.2020

We might not have beautiful flowers to take pics of these days but we are still working hard. We are keeping our sweet pea trellises in this winter and have mulched the rows with leaves to help prevent soil erosion, as an attempt to keep weeds from growing and to feed the worms. We will let you know if it was successful in the spring when we plant.

So it looks like I've been coerced into introducing myself. I'm Shannon, the much younger sister, well really only 3 years younger...ha. I'm also the more mechanically inclined sister, which in return makes me the primary tractor operator....I'm not complaining. I feel fortunate that my husband and I were able to buy our acreage 5 years ago. We love that our two daughters, their cousins and friends can free range on the property. I enjoy a pet that gives back, so for now we ...have a flock of chickens that live a pretty good life in a mobile chicken coop providing us fresh eggs. Similar to Lauren, I enjoy the rhythms of nature and the seasonality that farming brings. I especially enjoy the scents that come along with the seasons including our fragrant sweet peas in early spring, the fermenting blackberries in late summer and the perfume of ripening quince signaling the end of the growing season in the fall. Do you have any favourite nature inspired scents? @alexisleaphotography

Blooming Meadows 23.10.2020

A photo by @alexisleaphotography of me harvesting on a sunny August day. Usually the sister team here a Blooming Meadows speak as "we" but today I will introduce myself individually as Lauren. I am the eldest of the sisters and live off the farm about an 8 minute drive away. I reside on a suburban property with my husband, 8 year old son and teenage daughter. We also have a rescue shepherd cross who likes to go exploring when the gate is left open (which happened last n...ight). My favorite flower is whatever has just starting blooming for the first time in the season. Pink used to be my least favourite colour but it is now what I reach for first to include in floral design. I find that the most difficult part of being a farmer florist is there is always more to do. As a farmer florist I enjoy being tied to the rhythm of the seasons and creating a fresh bouquet with a new twist or ingredient I haven't tried before. Alright, your turn Shannon. See more

The great dahlia dig of 2020 is complete! It was especially nice to be digging in the sunshine today.

Blooming Meadows 30.09.2020

And then there was frost. We're taking a deep breath before we start the labour intensive job of digging up our hundreds of dahlia tubers.

Blooming Meadows 27.09.2020

A perfect Sunday to stop on by the stand. We have harvested, created floral bouquets and stocked the farm gate stand. A wee tidy up of the studio and we are ready for soccer and family time!

Blooming Meadows 24.09.2020

We just finished our last harvest of the season. My phone just alerted me to a special weather statement of cold artic air moving in overnight (with the possibility of snow....yikes!). We have flower arrangements available on the farm stand today. Now we have to go finish labeling dahlias before they become unidentifiable (black and mushy) from the cold moving in.

Blooming Meadows 23.09.2020

We've harvested our good little crop of specialty pumpkins. We love our little Autumn gems. Many are out on the stand today along with flower bouquets. Have a great Saturday!

The count down to end of the flower growing season begins. Looks like the frost is holding off and we'll have many bouquets for Canadian Thanksgiving. We're looking forward to designing our arrangements in pumpkins next week. Many bouquets on the stand this Thursday.

Blooming Meadows 25.08.2020

Lauren is getting ready to bike home from the farm - trying to decide on the scenic route or fastest way. Friday Flowers! Bouquets in paper wrapped, mason jar and vases. You may have heard there is a North American shortage of Mason jars. We use mason jars for our bouquets as it keeps them fresh on the stand and on there way home and we love that they are reusable and shouldn't end up in the landfill. We thank everyone who has brought back jars - if you have any to spare we would really appreciate them. Please just leave them under the stand and we will wash, sanitize and make good use of them.

Blooming Meadows 11.06.2020

Flowers available on the stand to brighten this hazy day. I'm working out some mixed emotions in the flower fields this morning after dropping my youngest off at her first day of kindergarten.

Many bouquets on the stand this Saturday. The fields were covered in a eerie haze for our morning harvest. We think the birds are restless and extra chatty because of the smoke. 17456 Kennedy rd Pitt Meadows Cash in secure box or etransfer [email protected] Please pull into the driveway

Farm fresh flowers on the stand. I was obviously a little distracted this morning and cut my finger with my recently sharpened clippers. I'm hoping the bandaid will suffice and I won't need stitches.

Peony foliage has joined the mix of ingredients in this bouquet including our cafe au lait dahlia this Sunday morning.
