Always looking to offer our clients, a detailing finish to compliment their design. Occasionally we have clients come to us with a picture they have found on an Internet site. Showing a detail or finishing style that looks great in the photo, but may not stand up over time in a ‘wet zone’ such as a shower area even though the picture shows as such, or may only be available in ‘kit size’ and not available to be customize to fit your design and size. In this picture, we needed... to supply and install a glass panel to make up the difference of a half wall shower enclosure. The client wanted a (what we kind of dubbed) ‘french framed’ shower panel. We knew exactly what they wanted because we have been using different materials to get from design to function for a long time. This can be designed for any shape or size of enclosure and is easy to keep clean. It is a framing finish that looks great, not a baked on paint or sticker vinyl, and stands up in wet zones. We’ve gotten behind on what we have been up to. So I will be putting on a few posts of designs and installs we have done over the last little while. A custom 10mm shower enclosure complete with header and pivot system. Hardware in brushed nickel. A beautiful completion to this en-suite bathroom.

Sometimes it’s out of a desire to just build something, that you find yourself going a little overboard with a project for a client. I installed some mirrors for a dance studio and they also needed a one way vision glass for parents to view their kids without being seen. They were under a time constraint and also needed the opening to be framed in and finished. So that’s simple right?? Go to the hardware store and pick up a length of jamb, some basic casing and some stop mat...erial and stick it together. And really that’s all the budget allowed. Nope, not me. Not on this one. Haha I had an idea. And quite frankly I’ve been a little bored, not having built anything from scratch in a while. Sooooo.... I grab a sheet of MDF and make room for the table saw. I ripped up pieces for the jambs, the stops and casing(with a little pencil line detail) and started my plan of assembly. Everything got glued and brad nailed together. The one side got the casing, the jamb and the glass stop assembled as one unit. The other side I assembled the casing and glass stops together leaving just enough for the stop to slide over the jamb for a nice tight fit. Once assembled and definitely once installed, no one would be able to see all the extra time and sizing that went into the perfect and unique fit of the frame but for me that’s where I get my enjoyment. So the moral of this project was; Just because there is a simpler, more economical way to do something. That doesn’t mean it is always the best way. You learn and appreciate more from starting with nothing and making your ideas materialize. Some will say you are just reinventing the wheel. But it’s not... your wheel. Enjoy your tasks.
