So this beautiful young mother somehow passed through my fence without leaving a trace. Eventually she came back up my driveway and rejoined the herd with a few handy gate closing maneuvers. Any pressure on her at all would’ve delayed her safe return. All she wanted was her baby and me to leave her alone while she found her way to the solution I planned. #bisontricks #impassability #motherlove #mothersmilk #heartattackavoided #runaway #byebyebaby #godblessbison #bison

Piles of biodiversity our way. Now to learn all the real names to these weeds. So this little fellow got under our fence the other day. He’s a later born calf so still orange. Calves will often nap near a fence line and somehow wiggle out when they wake up. His beautiful mother is a first time calver - a year early (born 2018). So when I came to help macgivor the fence she abandoned him. I tried for a good while to get him back in. Bison get worked up easy so I was worried I’d cause him to panick and die. With bison the less interference the better. Eve...ntually he got his head stuck in high tensil fence so I came up to help him out. He didn’t like that. Then he had to choose to go at me or around me and sure enough after looking left, then right, decided to lower his little head and charge me. I dodged it and dove for his heels. After a small chase in my steel toes I gave up. One of us was sure to collapse soon. Next morning his little mama came back for him with several other older mamas and I was able to lift the fence. He ran in and suckled like mad. Always learning something new about these beauties. This little guy will one day make a great herd sire I think. #arunforyourmoney #nofear #mothersmilk #bison #saskatchewan #yxe #bluebellbisonranch #summer @ Saskatoon, Saskatchewan See more
