Had a great time hosting a workshop with Lynne Racette at facebook.com/truerootshealthcare last Thursday. We met with an awesome group of women and had lots of fun talking pelvic floor health, safe pre- and post-natal exercise, and more. Thanks to everyone who came out. It's crucial for all moms to have their pelvic floors assessed. You'll be in good hands with Dr. Lynne so don't hesitate to give her a call!

There's still room for Thursday's workshop! A popular question so far: if I'm currently pregnant is it worth doing the workshop now or should I wait and learn after I've had the baby? It is DEFINITELY worth your time before the baby comes. Having a better understanding of your pelvic floor function will not only make it easier to rehab post-partum but also assist in delivery. RSVP for Thursday to learn more!

Ladies! This week I'll be participating in a FREE introductory workshop with the talented Dr. Lynne Racette (naturopathic doctor and pelvic floor therapist). We'll cover the pelvic floor, kegel exercises, and how to activate your core during exercise, and more. If you pee or leak when you cough, sneeze, or jump; suffer from mummy tummy or diastasis recti; suffer from prolapse; or are just curious after giving birth, this is perfect for you.... Call 905-852-2929 or email [email protected] to register and save your spot, as space is limited.

Good morning! Here's an article from Vice discussing the lack of research and funding directed to women's health, specifically my area of expertise, postpartum pelvic floor health. This quote sums up how troubling things are: [Pelvic floor physiotherapist Chana] Ross bemoans that treatment for these issues isn't publicly funded. "We're disempowering women. They're walking around in painAt each life-cycle stage, women are told pain is normal like, 'What do you expect? You h...ad a baby.' But there are so many things you can do. It's very different in Europe, where people aren't as uncomfortable discussing problems like incontinence or sexual dysfunction. In France, for example, new moms are entitled to 10 to 20 government-subsidized sessions of pelvic rehabilitation. So don't be afraid to ask questions and talk to health professionals! And if you feel like something is wrong and you are brushed off -- e.g. You had a baby, what do you expect? -- keep asking and find someone who is willing to listen! https://www.vice.com//doctors-dont-understand-why-many-wom

Hi all, It's been way too long since my last post and the posts I have done over the past few months have been far too infrequent so it's time for a personal life update. Our new little guy, Parker, is just over five months old now, meaning I'm also just over five months removed from my concussion. I'm still suffering some negative side effects. I can't exercise like I used to because it causes headaches. My energy isn't yet where I want it to be (and unfortunately, this ...blog is one of the things that falls down my priority list when I'm low on gas). The whole experience has been a great learning tool and helped me empathize with my clients even more. Like many women recovering from birth, I'm extremely impatient with the speed of recovery. But I'm trying to heed my own advice, trust the process, and remember how far I've come. In many aspects of life, and certainly in fitness, I find we tend to compare ourselves to who we were yesterday. We might only be imperceptibly better or hell, we might even be worse. But if we measure ourselves to a week ago, a month ago, a year ago it's a much different story we can more clearly see the amazing progress we've made. Five months ago I wasn't even recognizable. It wasn't me. Now that only happens for a day or a moment. So if you're feeling frustrated with your progress, try doing what I (try to) do: focus on the bigger picture, be proud of your long-term accomplishments, and keep pushing forward.
