Gord Roberts Memorial Blue Knuckle Derby

We have some good news! After speaking with the Mayor, we have been given the go ahead to continue preparations for the 10th Annual Gord Roberts Memorial Blue Knuckle Derby, scheduled for January 16th & 17th! The Village of Nakusp has offered us the use of their enclosed tent and propane heaters to be used for a weigh in station, and we will continue to work with them to make sure we comply with all Covid regulations. You can expect sanitation stations, and we will be enforcing proper social distancing while on shore. We appreciate your cooperation, and we thank you for your continued support!

Hello everyone! We hope all of you are healthy and safe We have had questions regarding the 2021 derby, so I thought a formal post was necessary. As of right now, we are hopeful that we will be able to host the derby, as it will be our 10th year! ... With Covid information and regulations changing frequently, anything can happen between now and January. If we are able to have the derby, it will of course look a little different, and we ask for your patience as we figure all of this out! Congratulations to the Nakusp graduating class of 2020! When you purchase a ticket for the Derby, $5 automatically goes towards the Gord Roberts Memorial Bursary. This bursary is given out to a Nakusp Secondary School graduate each year. Although we are sad that we weren't able to personally hand over the cash this year, we are very proud of the 2 recipients of this year's bursary. Riley Hall (Gord's great nephew), and Kimberly Roberts (Gord's great niece), each recieved $2...50 to go towards their post secondary education. Congratulations! Thank you to all of the students that sent in an application.

Today marks 9 years since Gord passed away... We want to thank all of you for helping us remember him, and honour his memory every year!

Happy International Women's Day!

Derby weekend has come and gone.. and we have so many people to thank! With your help, we gave out $4,300.00 in prize money, and raised $1,700.00 for the Gord Roberts Memorial Bursary! Participants came from all over BC and Alberta, with 234 tickets sold this year. ... We also recieved donations from all over the province! Our list of sponsors will be posted shortly, but we would like to recognize our major sponsor, Arrow Transportation Systems Ltd (Vancouver,BC) for sponsoring our t-shirts, Stoneyridge CNC for donating our auction item (Quesnel BC), Black Press Media (Surrey BC), for sponsoring our marketing campain, and the Nakusp General Store for being our ticket location in Nakusp! We would also like to send a thank you to the Olsen family for the use of the marina building, Jan & Dan Freeman for the use of their scales, and the Nakusp Legion for opening their doors to the public on Saturday night and providing some entertainment!
