I am sad to share that the physical location of Bluemind Lifestyle has closed its doors. Due to the challenge of remaining open during this pandemic, our office suit / co-working space has been forced to close indefinitely. Coaching/consulting continues to be available, in an online format. Should we continue to be vigilant in NB, I hope to have in-person availability in the fall and a new location for this portion of my business. Thank you to the businesses and individuals ...that have supported this venture. We were heading in a great direction with our little band of colleagues and I am heartbroken that this has come to pass. You made the past year and a half a blessing. I am sorry I couldn't do more to keep us going. Love, Melody

Thriving Through the Pandemic with Teens (#6 of 6) . . .... 6. Give them, and yourself, a break. We have legit never done this before, so make sure to give yourself and your teens a lot of understanding and grace. There are a tonne of emotional and psychological challenges we are facing grief, anxiety, loss, separation anxiety, so on and so forth. We aren’t going to get it all right all the time. Know that this is okay forgive yourself and your kids, process it, and move on. necessary.

Thriving Through the Pandemic with Teens (#5 of 6) 5. Focus on keeping some sort of routine, and letting them control what they CAN control.... Routine helps anxiety if your teen is anxious, a sense of control and knowing what to expect can be comforting and empowering. Learning opportunities, physical movement, and self-care activities are really important. Hopefully you were doing some of this before the health crisis so you have been able to continue them, or adapt those activities to this new way of being. If not, make it a routine to engage in an activity for each, daily. Here’s the kicker your teenager needs to have some control over the activities and they don’t necessarily have to do them with you. Give them what control you can, help them create the routine, and provide supportive reassurance and resources as needed and necessary.

Six Tips on Thriving Through the Pandemic with Teens (Or Anyone Else!) (#4 of 6) . . .... 4. It’s okay to make them spend time with you and your family. However, understand that teenagers generally find it easier to figure stuff out with other teenagers. Your opinions and thoughts weigh greater than you think (or than they think), but your teens are getting to a point where their peers are having greater and greater influence as they figure out individuation (i.e. becoming their own, independent, unique person). You want them to be independent, self-sufficient people someday, so this is actually a good thing. Hopefully, they have some good friends who provide a support system to them. (If they don’t, that is a whole separate post we can discuss!) Yes, in some cases, it can be the proverbial ‘blind leading the blind’, but if you have done, and continue to do, points one through three then they have some material to work with. And, they may ignore all of it and just talk about random things with their friends, game, etc and that is okay too. We all cope differently. I, for instance, am spending a ridiculous amount of time creating elaborate baked goods and sharing ridiculous memes with a group of mom friends. What are you doing? What is your youth doing? Is there anything you can do together?

There have been a lot of questions and concerns about the homeschooling situation we presently find ourselves. So, let's get real about homeschooling and mental health! Monday, April 27 at 8pm, we will be going Live in our private support group to answer your questions and speak to any concerns you have. I am SO excited to introduce Scott Fenton to you.
