Today we had another forest adventure, very different after a fairly heavy snow fall. We came across a log that could be either climbed over or crawled under, I left it up to the kids, the oldest 2, up and over easy peasy, the next child , 3rd in line for age, thought maybe they couldn't do it, I said well let's try and see, up and over and very happy to do so, the 2 youngest, well they were not going to let the "big kids" show them up lol up and over they went. Then we sta...rted tromping thru the forest and the kids started chanting "We Can Do It, Yes We Can!" Loudly because they were so proud of themselves. Let your kids try "hard" things if they want to, risky play and trying new things is amazing for them!! The chatter at lunch was all about their accomplishments and their discovery of shaking a tree full if newly fallen snow and making it snow on themselves. Yes we are all stressed over how virtual learning is going, major kudos to the teachers !!! My JK kiddos teachers are amazing with what they come up with for the kids, but know that even doing something simple as a walk thru the forest, is learning. Today's skills: Walking in deep, freshly fallen snow How to duck under branches How to figure out what made that track Over, under, across, duck, Find the path What was that sound, a bird.. what kind of bird (We know a few bird calls) Which is the best path and why And so much more. I let the kids lead the way for the most part, the forest does have a pond and we talk about the pond , how the water must feel right now, staying back from the water so we don't slip in, they can lead their way thru the forest, overcome obstacles and figure out a plan. It is all learning!! See more

Another fun morning exploring tracks in the forest. We even discovered if we shook a tree the fresh snow would fall on us. They found this very amusing lol

It was a bridge building, boat making, sink and float day. It may have been a stormy day but kids were busy bees creating. The boats and sink and float were for virtual learning. They had to make boats out of aluminum and see how many toys it held before sinking. My JK asked for a box thry wrapped aluminum around and that made a very sturdy boat. The bridges they created were different heights and widths so they could use different trains on their tracks. These kids are awesome problem solvers and do it all thru play

A very fun morning after virtual school this morning. We wanted to look for tracks in the forest. We found bunny tracks, beaver tracks and giant tracks (possibly made by a dinosaur thry decided lol) We went thru the forest, saw a bunny, we found our tree we donated to the township and we found a tree a beaver has cut down! Absolutely beautiful day outside today!

It's a den/fort kind of quiet time today. My JK kiddo and their friend build it and are happily having quiet time with zoo books and as an extra special treat I brought out their very loved big stuffed animals because their den needed animals. We have had to keep our stuffies put away due to covid restrictions but a little unexpected treat for a day is good. They were all so happy to be able to play with the stuffies even if it's for just a day. They will all need to be washed and dried after today but it's worth it.
