Ouch ouch ouch! This is quite a little mess. Anyone want to guess how old this horse is? (Hint: count how many cheek teeth you can see).

Some horses require supplemental support to maintain healthy metabolic function. Platinum Metabolic Support, our most powerful metabolic support formula, contains a combination of chromium to support healthy glucose tolerance and normal blood sugar levels, and magnesium, which is critical for the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.

Ooooh this was such a rewarding case. This sweetheart of a horse came to me for severe weight loss. History included a dental float and multiple dewormers over the past month. Our physical exam didn't reveal any abnormalities, and bloodwork came back pretty boring. It took some convincing for the owner to allow me to sedate and do an oral exam, and really- they had done it less than a month ago. Well it turns out, it was an unsedated "natural" dentistry where the mouth was ne...ver opened....Which makes it super hard to find this long dead lower cheek tooth- the periodontal ligament was only left at the very root tip. I am happy to report this lovely pony has gained almost all it's weight back and is going into winter chubbier than ever I know I keep preaching it... but I am going to preach it again: "Good dentistry can not be achieved without a good oral exam" See more

What a weekend! We are working to clear as much snow as possible, but as it stands, we are declaring today a snow day. If you have an emergency, contact Dr Williams on the emergency line at 403-580-9325. Otherwise, say safe, and happy shoveling.....

Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, Healthy Weight is supportive in many ways including allergy response, and skin, coat, gastric, and muscle health. For horses that need to gain weight, Healthy Weight provides calories in addition to forage. It is made from flax oil, a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, which makes it a healthy alternative to corn oil.

Hey friends! A number of you have approached us about a ladies farrier clinic.... so we have decided to host one! Limited Space available, so call to book in ASAP

Blue Sky Veterinary Services 20.09.2020

Heads up Blue Sky friends! Dr Williams is FINALLY going to take some time off, and there will not be a veterinarian available from July31st through August 16th. As much as she would love to be on a beach, she will instead be out enjoying her personal horses. During this time, the clinic will be open from 9-noon, Monday through Friday for prescription pick up.

What do we mean when we say we want to "stain your horse's eye?". When we susupect that there may be damage to the cornea of the eye, we apply a special stain that adheres to damaged corneal cells (but not healthy ones). This is a quick, easy, and important test that helps us determine what type of eye drop or ointment will best treat the problem.

Cloudy eyes in our horses can be an emergency. The blue or cloudy color you are seeing could mean that there is damage or infection within the cornea, or inside of eye.

Blue Sky Veterinary Services 21.08.2020

The clouds over the clinic this afternoon were absolutely stunning Hope everyone stayed safe during that fast storm. Poor Jaelynn was out catching a mare when it hit.... she (and the mare) looked like wet rats by the time they got to the stocks

Blue Sky Veterinary Services 10.08.2020

Your horse's eye is tearing, and they have it half closed. It even looks a little cloudy. Should you call the vet?

Babies, Babies, Babies!!!! Our equine breeding season is in full swing right now (it is THE BEST season ). It is extra special when we get to see mares coming back with foals we helped make last year. If you are thinking of breeding your mare this year, give us a call to book her in!

Blue Sky Veterinary Services 27.07.2020

What the heck is happening here?!?! Well- it turns out that mother nature is pretty clever. When foals are in utero- they dont need hard hoof edges jabbing through their mamma... so they have these deciduous hoof capsules that quickly wear off the more they move. This particular baby is 12 hours old.

WEST NILE. Now is the time to be vaccinating your horse against West Nile Virus. This can be done in combination with other mosquito-born diseases and tetanus, or on its own. We also have a vaccine that covers the mosquito-born diseases (Western and Eastern encephalitis) as well as RABIES (yes, horses can get Rabies). Call the clinic today to book your horse in for their annual physical exam and spring vaccination.

Did you know that Cowboy 109 is standing at Blue Sky for the 2020 breeding season? Owned by Triple C Performance Horses, Cowboy is an own son of Favorite Cartel (Corona Cartel). As you can see, his babies have the type of personality that makes it awful hard to get pictures of them. On top of having an amazing pedigree and personality.... he has the goods to back it all up. So much so, that when you bring your mare in to get bred- he just may get your neighbors mare bred too (it's that good ). Give us a call to book your mare in this spring.

Hey friends. To add to the craziness, vesicular stomatitis has been found in the states of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Please be aware of the travel restrictions (for you and your horse now)

Let's all admit, spring 2020 pretty much sucks We would like to help give you something to look forward to in spring 2021. Cats Starbright's stud fee will be reduced to $800 for the 2020 breeding season.

Are you feeding a calf/foal/lamb freshly milked colostrum? Try "cleaning" your colostrum first! We pour our "dirty" colostrum through a gauze, filtering out some of that dirt and mud.

Blue Sky Veterinary Services 17.05.2020

Are you baby ready?!?!?! Foaling Season is THE BEST Once that beautiful baby is on the ground, don't forget the 1-2-3 Rule. We want the foal to stand by 1 hour, nurse by 2 hours, and mamma MUST pass the fetal membranes by 3 hours (it is considered an emergency after 3 hours)

Blue Sky Veterinary Services 28.04.2020

I'm not sayin'... I'm just sayin'......

Hi friends! There was a little bit of an "ooops" today at the clinic, and a client's vehicle tried to sneak into our surgical suite. The important thing is that nobody was hurt. Obviously, we will be having to reschedule surgeries until we have this fixed up. We appreciate your patience during this time.

Blue Sky Veterinary Services 30.03.2020

During these crazy times, I don't think I have ever felt more grateful to live in a smaller center and to be involved within the agriculture community. As a primarily large animal clinic, the vast majority of our clientele is already in social distancing mode (also known as calving season), and there have been no indication that this virus can be found or transmitted by livestock. Driving to work today, I pondered at the irony that I spent countless hours planning biosecurit...y risks between animals and animal-human (zoonotic) risks...... and here I am now worrying about the dang human-to-human spread of disease..... oh how the times have changed. Blue Sky already has a very detailed cleaning protocol; however, we are now taking increased precautions to help keep not only our patients, but our clients safe. 1.It goes without saying, Please adhere to all recommendations made by Alberta Health Services. If you feel under the weather, but require a prescription, an animal seen or supplies, give us a call first, and we will arrange a way to help you out. 2. We will not be allowing more than 10 people (total - with 4 staff members in clinic, that means 6 clients maximum) in the building at any time. There is more than ample space in each treatment area for us to all stand 6' away from each other. Please limit 2 people or less to an appointment time, or in our reception area. 3. There are 2 sinks available in the front rooms that you are welcome (and encouraged) to use to wash your hands at any point. 4. If you need your animal examined, but do not feel comfortable being present, please let us know, and we will happily help you out. With our phones and endoscopes, we can take pictures or videos of what we find and send them to you remotely. For those of you who know me..... you know how much I enjoy when kids or teenagers come and we can use our appointment time to educate as we go. Even though I have no doubt your poor kids are going stir crazy, I would ask that we respect our distancing protocols, and only allow 1 or 2 people per appointment, and only the people necessary to make decisions for that animal. Thank you to everyone for all your efforts, and an extra thank you to everyone in agriculture - we have always known that you are the backbone of our country, and a small part of me is happy that more people are seeing that in the face of this challenge. Blue Sky is here to help keep your animals and YOU as safe and healthy as possible. If you have any concerns, just let us know. We are here to help.
