We’re calling it quits for 2019 Now we’ve just gotta process our keepers, fix up the recipes for our calf rations, clean corrals and macgyver some pens to contain waspy bovines oh and finish baling and haul some feed in THE LIST IS SHORT We’ll start weaning again in the New Year! Wanna know what our most dreaded season of the year is....HUNTING SEASON It shouldn’t be; everyone in my family (but me) are hunters. For as long back as I can remember Jason and the kids have enjoyed driving our land scouting and admiring the new crops of deer, recognizing the old gorgeous bucks that could adorn our walls and watching out for the does with babies in tow, hoping they flourish and thrive in our hills. Until 7 years ago none of our land had No Trespassing... signs. However, Gates left open, cut fences, mowed down fence posts, spooked cow herds, reckless driving through our yard and danger for anyone on a horse in the pasture on any given (warmish ) day have made us choose to post our land NO TRESPASSING. If there’s no sign posted, the sign has fallen off and we still don’t want you there. We give permission to a small number of hunters we trust, and we DO NOT plan to add anymore people to the list. This morning Jason found another set of hunters from Regina in the middle of a herd of cows No permission. And they won’t be getting it in the future. Usual list of comments-too hard to contact land owners, we didn’t know where the community pasture is, too many guys out on all the other land, blah blah blah. The law made those that follow rules and enjoy hunting that much more of rule followers (add in we LOVE the little permission notebook that the SWA is giving out) But I’m afraid if you never gave a shit before about a land owners right....you probably don’t give one now....unless you are one of the guys that Jason found in our pastures so far, I bet after that conversation regarding land owner rights and driving on private city lawns those guys probably won’t be back See more
