Now, more than ever, local matters. Small businesses are way better for the local economy than large ones. When you shop at a small business, that money goes ba...ck to our community, and it creates 3.5 times more wealth growth for your local economy than shopping at a chain store. Small, locally-owned businesses tend to generate higher incomes for people than large, non-local ones. However, small businesses are way more fragile than big ones and get heavily impacted by the shutdown policies. Many small businesses have adapted online shopping, curbside pickup, home deliveries, and phone consultations. Please support your community by supporting local & small businesses. See more

An excellent Saturday morning read on the history of Bluestreak Records, I was twenty three, and I spent most of my time going into record stores, tells Tim about opening the shop. Almost immediately, the first moment I went into one as a kid, I thought owning a record store would be the coolest thing. Of course, for years and years CDs were my biggest seller but I opened a record store to have a record store. I don’t know if anyone who ever opened a record store really... loved CDs. I remember the accountant I used for a while said ‘You sell more CDs than records, but all your marketing is for the records. You put your CD’s up on the walls, but your records get everything.’ I said, ‘Yeah. I opened a record store. I didn’t open a CD store that has some records.’ It wasn’t about making money on records. I mean, I opened it in 1989 which was the last year they made records. Thanks Samtweedle.com & MossWorks Photography for making this happen! See more

Bluestreak records is excited to participate in the Virtual Screening of the #documentary AMATEUR ON PLASTIC! Here is the rental link: https://factory25.vhx.tv//bluestreak-records-pres/purchase Butch Willis is a Washington, D.C. rock legend. Born and raised in 1960s suburban Maryland, Byron Henry "Butch" Willis came of age in the late '70s post-hippie subculture. After sharing an apartment with infamous local music icon Root Boy Slim, Butch was inspired to become a rock'n'r...oll star himself. The unique and unusual brand of "outsider music" that Butch Willis & The Rocks created captivated the local music scene beginning with their appearance at the seminal Primitive Night in 1984. AMATEUR ON PLASTIC chronicles Butch's life and career from the beginning all the way through to present day. It features a host of Butch-appointed band managers Joe Lee (Joe’s Record Paradise), Jeff Mentges (No Trend), Jeff Krulik (Heavy Metal Parking Lot), and director Mark Robinson (Unrest/Teen-Beat). Also co-starring is Al Breon, the Rocks' innovative "throat guitarist." The film combines archival footage, interviews with Butch, and performances of his hit songs "Drugs," The Garden’s Outside, "TV's From Outer Space," and The Girl's on My Mind." Amateur on Plastic also parallels the 1990’s era of seminal indie record label Teen-Beat. Behind-the-scenes glimpses of the label’s concerts and private parties provide much of the background and feature members of the bands Unrest, Versus, Tuscadero and more. Today is the launch day for the virtual screening of Other Music Documentary! Once you purchase a ticket the film will be available to view for 72 hours. You can purchase a ticket here: https://othermusic.vhx.tv//bluestreak-records-pre/purchase -- Tickets: $12... Official Selection: Tribeca, Sound Unseen 2019 THE DOCUMENTARY: Other Music was an influential and uncompromising New York City record store that was vital to the city's early 2000s indie music scene. But when the store is forced to close its door due to rent increases, the homogenization of urban culture, and the shift from CDs to downloadable and streaming music, a cultural landmark is lost. Through vibrant storytelling, the documentary captures the record store's vital role in the musical and cultural life of the city, and highlights the artists whose careers it helped launch including Vampire Weekend, Animal Collective, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, William Basinski, Neutral Milk Hotel, Sharon Van Etten, Yo La Tengo and TV on the Radio. -- HOW THE VIRTUAL SCREENING RELEASE WILL WORK: The film will be available only via record shops and theaters starting April 17th and will not be available from other digital platforms for several months. The rental process will be easy for the viewer. Once the customer purchases the film from the record shop or theater starting April 17th they will be issued a rental via email. The film is viewable for 72 hours once you choose to start playing it on any internet-connected device, including laptops, tablets and smartphones. (Instructions on how to view it on your television via AppleTV, Roku and Chromecast will also be available).

A big shout-out to Downtown Peterborough for their enormous support for local businesses during the current health crisis. A big thank you is also extended to Sofie Andreou & Associates. As a brick and mortar business, Sofie Andreou, AKA digital midwife, helped with my smooth transition into the digital world. #downtownptbo #digitalmidwife
