The Peeze: When you can feel a sneeze coming but you've got a full bladder... . Urinary leakage with sneezing, laughing, coughing and exercise is super common. Especially for women during pregnancy, postpartum, in menopause and even high level athletes. Common but not something you have to live with! .... Unfortunately the age old trick of trying to hold your pee in with your hand, crossing your legs or squeezing your butt cheeks usually won’t cut itbut there is hope! Training the muscles down therecan help you stop that leakage. Before you say But I’ve tried kegels and they didn’t work!, know that sometimes too much muscle tension in your pelvic floor, or poor coordination of those muscles may be the culprit. . Let me help you sneeze (run, jump, play sports) with confidence again! #pelvichealth #peeze #pelvicphysiotherapy #pregnancy #postpartum #incontinence See more

Let it Bloom . A lot of people think pelvic physiotherapy is all about doing as many kegels as they can. I can’t tell you how many patients I’ve had who are convinced pelvic physiotherapy isn’t for them because they’ve already been doing kegels and their symptoms haven’t improved. . Believe it or not I spend a lot of my time teaching patients how to RELAX their pelvic floors! An overactive or tight pelvic floor can be just as problematic as a lengthened pelvic floor. Here a...re some symptoms you may not have associated with a tight pelvic floor -Urinary leakage -Urgency or Frequency with urination -Painful sex -Pelvic pain . What do flowers have to do with a tight pelvic floor? It's a cue I often give patients to help them visualize those pelvic floor muscles lengthening and relaxing. *Take a deep breath in, imagine your vagina is flower and let it bloom See more

We’re Back! . I will be seeing patients again as of January 4th 2021! Online booking is open now, check out the link in the bio . In light of Covid-19 I’ve made some changes to how I’m seeing patients with a hybrid virtual and in-person model. Maintaining a safe clinical space has always been important at BPHC but enhanced cleaning protocols and scheduling to ensure social distancing are making sure we’re doing our part to keep the community safe!... . Whether virtual or in-person know your care will always be one-on-one, personalized and holistic. I can’t wait to be back doing what I love empowering patients about their pelvic health! See more

Fall Vibes . Fall has always been my favourite season. It feels like a fresh start with the crisp morning air, kids heading back to school and the lazy days of summer coming to an end. So It felt only right to step back into this space as the cool weather rolled in. . 2020 was definitely not what I thought it was going to be, a world wide pandemic not being something I had prepared to tackle during my mat leave. However, I have felt lucky to spend this year watching my litt...le man grow and getting better acquainted with the outdoor spaces in our community. It has also been a year of growth; figuring out who I am as a mother, who I want to be as a clinician and getting to put into practice everything that I preach to my postpartum moms (and finding out fitting in those exercises wasn’t as easy as I thought). It has also been a time of reflection, have I really created an open positive space for everyone in our community and how can I make sure I’m a better ally in my everyday life and when I return to practice? . Although I still have a couple of months left in my mat leave I’m officially back on the gram. I'm eager to share what I’ve learned in my postpartum journey so far and to continue to advocate for pelvic health in our community! Stay tuned! See more

September 8th is World Physiotherapy Day . The theme of for this year’s World Physiotherapy Day is chronic pain. A condition that has become a serious burden for many Canadians and their loved ones. Physiotherapy plays an important role, helping people with long term (chronic) pain develop the skills they need to manage their condition, increase their activity and improve their quality of life. . #WorldPTDay #pelvichealth #pelvicphysiotherapy #chronicpain
