A lesson in patience From this spot I could probably see 30 people waiting for the sunset, completely obscured by fog at that point. #bellletstalk More and more I find myself needing to escape from reality, I lost a lot of family members and a lot of friends last year, it hit me hard and I didn’t cope well. My mental health took a turn for the worse, and I pushed it aside too much, trying to keep my grades up. I failed, miserably. I tried to numb the pain with unhealthy coping mechanisms. I guess that worked for a while but that too failed eventually. Escaping my mind is something I seek often, a couple mo...ments of peace from the onslaught of dark thoughts. These moments, they keep me going, sometimes it feels like they’re all I have. When I don’t want to be alive anymore, I tell myself that I just need to get to one of those moments, if I can make it to somewhere I have peace, I can make it through, I’ll feel a little better then. In nature or gazing up to our beautiful galaxy I can find peace, sometimes it’s still hard then but there is hope. There is always hope, I can get through this, you can get through this. About a month ago I went out to shoot some astrophotography. The location I went to unfortunately had too much light pollution to view the Milky Way in all its glory, but I tried anyways, hoping my camera could see more than myself. On one of these shots, I forgot to tighten the tripod adjustments sufficiently. Happiness, we all chase it, but are we running in the right direction? Some chase it through money and possessions, in my experience seeing my friends and family pursue this, it actually makes them miserable in the long run, being unable to maintain happiness though they are constantly working for more possessions. For me, I find money doesn’t do much for me, I’d rather pursue moments with family and friends or moments like this, alone on a perfectly clear night under the ama...zing spectacle that is the Milky Way, taking in a magnificent sunset or finding peace in the trees. Taking pictures can bring a lot of joy when they turn out and also helps me almost return to these moments, happiness and peace returning with them.
