A...s part of the 2020 CWD surveillance program, we are asking for your help to provide samples from deer harvested in this year’s surveillance areas. The 2020 CWD surveillance areas are: Southwestern Ontario, wildlife management units (WMUs): 92B, 92C, 93A, 93B, 93C, 94A and 94B Eastern Ontario, WMU: 65 You can provide a sample in one of two ways: 1) Drop off the head from a deer harvested in the surveillance area to one of our depot locations 2) Provide a sample to our roving wildlife research crews Hunter submissions of samples from harvested deer are critical in Ontario’s efforts to detect CWD. The first 500 hunters in each surveillance area who provide a sample will be given a limited edition 2020 Ontario MNRF CWD Surveillance crest. As a land owner with the trail running through, I do appreciate most sledders but of course the usual culprits need to disrespect and cause damage. Pegging these few on web cams will do the trick.

Met the OPP on the trail head in Timmins this weekend. Checked all our papers & even ran the numbers on our trail pass to make sure they were registered to the... sleds they were on! I said I have never had my trail pass sticker checked, ever! He said this year all the data bases are linked together & $550 fine with no pass or one not registered to that sled! Limited snow and cold temperatures for freeze up have caused some delays. There is also quite a bit of brush and trees that have fallen down on many parts of the trail system from last season, as well as many pickets and signs that need to be installed in fields and lakes. If you can spare a day or afternoon please reach out to your local District/Club in assisting to help open the Provincial trail system sooner. Please do not ride on closed trails, access is prohibited and anyone entering the property may be trespassing. This could also jeopardize land use agreements in the future. If you're looking to volunteer, contact your district today at: https://www.ofsc.on.ca/find-your-district/
