McCaw's Privateers 18th Century Naval Camp 07.11.2020

Ahoy there shipmates. I’m writing to let you know that I’ve decided to put the RAVEN up for SALE. It saddens me to do it, but I think the time has come to scale down to a smaller boat. She’s a wonderful sailboat and with her new trailer travels very well on the road.... However my crew and myself are all well into our 70’s and slowing down, so I’ve decided to sell her to someone that will treat her well and I’ll build a smaller version for myself (The CROW) to launch, rig and use on my own if I want. The Crow will still be a ‘historical boat’ that I can use in McCaw’ Privateers if and when we ever get back to having some kind of ‘re-enactments’ like we had before this ^%$#@!!! pandemic! I’m sure that will happen, but I don’t have the time to wait another few years --- OR while I am waiting, I hope to be building The Crow while one of YOU are sailing the RAVEN. Deciding on a PRICE has been very hard. Well over three years of my life went into building her. She’s fiberglassed plywood and pine with a tall spruce mast. 18 ft in the water, 24 ft from end of rudder to tip of bowsprit. 7 ft + beam. She is very stable. You can stand on the side! She sails well with a crew of 2 or more and easily can handle 5 or 6 adults. She’ll come with all the sails, rigging, anchor, chain, rope and bumpers. She rides on a almost new Excalibur trailer that has a new spare tire. I was thinking of somewhere between 10 and 12 thousand Canadian, BUT have decided to lower that down to SEVEN thousand OR the BEST OFFER. She’s here in my yard all ready to be wrapped up for another winter. The trailer is raised up so the wheels don’t touch the ground. Pickup can be now or sometime in the spring. Delivery can be arranged. IF INTERESTED in discussing the boat, making an offer or seeing more pictures, send me an e-mail at [email protected] and we can have a little chat. Until then friends, stay well, stay safe and be smart. Wayne Mee (Captain Angus of McCaw’s Privateers)

Good morning Shipmates! Well, the last event of the season has come and gone and now it’s time to put the RAVEN into dry-dock for the winter. Always a bitter-sweet time for me. My son and I will empty her out, stow all the gear and get her ready for her ‘long sleep’ till next spring. Here are a number of pics from last weekend’s adventure at The Glengarry Pioneer Museum in Dunvagen, Ontario, in the rolling farmland south of Ottawa, first settled by Scottish farmers over 200 years ago. Another great place to see history ‘come alive’. So enjoy this first set of pics --- this time they are all black & white --- let me know what you think --- and have a great time till we meet again.

Ahoy shipmates! Over a dozen McCaw’s are just back from a four day adventure with the Tall Ships in beautiful Brockville Ontario on the magnificent St. Lawrence River! There were over ten TALL SHIPS and several thousand people visited each one every day! We had set up our 18th century camp in one of the three tree lined parks/piers they have along the waterfront to accommodate the Tall Beasties! Beside us were The Bluenose II and The Pride of Philadelphia, both beautiful shi...ps! We cooked all our meals over an open fire and the people that toured the Bluenose then had to pass either by or through our camp! The Raven was on its trailer with the mast up and jib & flags flying! Hundreds of people stopped to admire her and ask several of the ‘stock’ questions we answer every time. Yes it really sails. No, it’s not an original. Yes I made it myself & it took three years. No, they didn’t have a motor way back then. We call him Seaman Tohatsu and he does ‘most’ of the rowing. And the infamous top three: Yes we really do sleep in the tents. Yes we really do eat the food & Yes, it is a real fire. Fair winds to you all! Angus McCaw PS MORE pics to follow.

Ahoy Shipmates! We're just back from The Merrickville Canal Festival where both The Raven and her smaller sister The Red Wing were on display for the hundreds of people who strolled along that section of the beautiful Redeau Canal. The canal was built in the 1840's to link the growing cities of Ottawa with Kingston at the eastern end of Lake Ontario. Here are a few pics I managed to take when not chatting with the many visitors. Enjoy. Our next event is the TALL SHIPS at Br...ockville at the end of August! Get your tickets to visit the Tall Ships on line and avoid the long line-ups, but visiting the Navy camps on land is FREE. Stop by McCaw's and say hi! I hope to see you there! Captain Angus McCaw
