Well, it was a great weekend in Toronto visiting with friends and taking in the Canadian Screen Awards with nominated Producer Kenneth J. Harvey but now it is down to serious legal work for me. Today I will be speaking with experts working and doing research on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) which is a significant issue in our criminal justice system which our justice system has not yet figured out how to deal with it. The failure of the justice system to address FAS...D in any systemic way, including appropriate provisions under the criminal code, is creating a huge injustice for many people resulting in unnecessary incarceration, failure to provide appropriate treatment and the guarantee of compounding future problems for affected individuals and increased costs for our justice system. Hopefully my work here in the next couple of days around FASD Will help contribute to some changes in our province specifically and in the justice system generally down the road in the next while as we deal with these cases.
