Commit. Show up. I used to use these words as reasons to bully and guilt myself into workouts, into trying to lose weight, into eating in a restrictive, rule-oriented way. My idea of commitment was rooted in doing what society told me was acceptable and desirable. ::: Showing up in my life now means noticing. Being aware. Taking it all in. Feeling rather than numbing. Allowing rather than forcing. It means checking in with myself, and honouring my needs. It means knowing that... I’ve got my own back. That I won’t abandon or torture myself anymore...and trusting it. ::: Commit. Show up. Let’s not allow this to mean blindly following someone else’s guide. We've been led to believe that we constantly need to do more, have more, and be more. We've been led to believe that who we are now is not enough. That where we are now is not where we need to be. That we need to be "further ahead", doing "bigger", more "important" things. That we need to be constantly working toward the next goal, reaching for a "higher" level. It's exhausting. Physically, yes, but even more so, mentally and emotionally draining - depleting as a whole. ...Instead of constantly chasing "what's next", I want to enjoy and cherish the here and now. What's right in front of me. All the things I'm racing past each day. I want to slow down and really breathe. I want to feel the sunshine on my face, and the breeze against my skin. I want to feel the squeeze of my daughter's embrace, and the softness of my husband's lips. I want space to check in with myself, and to truly honor what it is I need. I want to laugh from my belly, and cry from the depths of my Soul. I want to live more fully. With presence. Wonder. Curiosity. And awe. Time away from social media has reaffirmed that I’m always changing, as are my needs. Reflections from the past couple of weeks... *** Things are rarely black and white, and they don’t have to be all or nothing either. When we try to fit ourselves, others, and experiences into boxes, it takes away the flow / dance of life. *** You are allowed to change and readjust any thing about yourself or in your life at any time, no apologies. If you’re not changing, you’re not growing.... *** Change can feel uncomfortable and scary, but that doesn’t mean we can prevent it or shouldn’t move forward. *** Gratitude, for what we have, who we are, and what we are able to do, can dramatically shift our perspective and life. *** There is NOTHING wrong with us for feeling dark and heavy. For going through days and seasons that are difficult and challenging. This is part of being human, and some people are more sensitive and prone to it than others. What’s important in these times are self compassion and grace as we navigate through. *** Life is a lot more enjoyable if we love each day as it comes, and loosen our grip on how we think things should be. As we moved through November and come into December, I’ve been experiencing familiar feelings creeping in...a flutter in my chest, a pit in my stomach, a heightened sense of pressure...and I’m making a decision this year to step back before it takes over. ::: I’ll be less present on social media, maybe even completely absent, for awhile. I need the space. I need less distractions from the outside, and more moving inward, with both myself and my family. It’s been a rough few days in our home. No one thing in particular, just lots of big emotions and not the most loving communication. This morning, after everyone went their own separate ways, I walked to the top of this hill to sit and breathe. My meditation nest. Tears streamed down my cheeks as the breeze hit my skin. I prayed. For inner peace. For my Higher Power to guide me. For love to prevail. ::: Life is full of amazing days and moments, and not so great ones. We go ...from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, all within the same 24 hours. And it’s all part of it - of being human, of learning, of growing. Rather than numbing and erasing the joy along with the pain, and the wisdom that we’ll gain, we need to give ourselves heaps of grace and compassion to move through the messy parts; the parts that feel unbearable and unknown. ::: Life’s a dance. I often feel anxious but dont know how to handle it. ::: I hate my body the way it is, but dont know how to love it. ::: My body is so tight and tense all the time, and its affecting my movement ability.... ::: I cant sleep - Ive got a million things running through my mind and my body cant relax. ::: Im in a funk and dont feel motivated or energized. ::: So many of our struggles can be addressed using gentle, compassionate, joyful movement, balanced with restful, quiet moments of peace and stillness. Sometimes what we know we need feels really difficult to step into. Sometimes what our bodies and souls are calling for, our minds and egos talk us out of. Sometimes we just have to take one small step forward, into what feels right, and let the rest take care of itself. ::: If we dont move, we remain stuck. We need both movement and stillness. And when our daily lives give a lot of one, we may need to make a conscious effort and commitment to include the other. We know what it is that we need - our bodies know, our hearts know, our souls know. What are you being called toward? A new session of Body Bliss classes begins on Sunday with Soothe Online from 8:00 - 9:00 pm Saskatchewan time. This class is for those of us who are being called to slow down, go inw...ard, and connect with ourselves. Tuesday evening is the first day of "in-person" classes at the Radville Legion Hall. Strong & Steady runs from 6:00 - 7:00pm, and is what I like to refer to as "soulful strength". It will leave you feeling energized and powerful without the high-impact stress on your body. There is the option to stay for Soothe following at 7:15pm. It's honestly such an amazing, perfectly-balanced evening of movement and stillness. And at first, that didn't sit well with me - I believe we limit ourselves when we have all the details of our lives planned and figured out. We don't leave room for the Universe and a Higher Power to bring us what we actually need, not what we think we do. But then one day I realized the true meaning of what she had said. Please help them (him/her) choose me. Please help them / us stay together. Please help me to be accepted. Please don’t let this happen...please make that happen... ::: I remember praying these words and many more along the same lines throughout my life. I remember praying for people to stay, for things to go my way, for my life to look the way I had envisioned. ::: And sometimes they did. Sometimes I got exactly what I prayed for. But I didn’t feel the way I thought... I would when I got it. ::: Other times things went vastly differently than I had hoped...and it turned out to be the greatest blessing of my life. ::: Truth is, we don’t always know what’s best for us, or how things will feel when we get them. It’s why we have to trust so fully and so deeply in a power higher than our minds and our own control. It’s why our goals need space and flexibility. It’s why our prayers need less specificity and more faith. ::: As I grew, my prayers started to sound more like, Please help things work out for the best of everyone. Mostly because shes unique. :: Why is it that we accept and celebrate differences in nature and animals, yet when it comes to human beings, were told how to be, look, and do things so we fit in. So we fit a mould that has been created for us. :: As my oldest daughter prepares to start high school in a couple of weeks, Ive been feeling stored emotions surface from my own journey through teen years. The pressures are so high t...o be somebody who stands out, yet only in a certain way, otherwise, just do whats cool and go along to get along. :: My dream is for a world where theres respect, honor and space for everyone to step into their true essence and shine...without the fear of being ostracized for it. I’ve been this Fitness Professional and I’m not proud of it, but am so so grateful for the growth that’s moved me to a deeper place with a deeper message... Be conscious and intentional in whose classes you’re taking, the messages your absorbing, and what you’re putting out into the world as well. Think of what kind of world you want, and how you’re contributing to it. Be aware of how your words and actions may not be matching up. We are all responsible for what’s been carried forward in society, and if we want change, we’ve got to put in a conscious effort to be a part of it.

Set goals - specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, with a date. Work hard. Dont give up. Keep going. No excuses. .. This way exhausts me. For years Ive been doing it like this. Pushing to achieve, do, get to the next level. To earn more, be better, make something of myself. And finally Ive gotten to the point that I cant do it anymore. When overwhelm led to burn out, to anxiety, then mild depression, I knew there had to be another way. In order to not only survive..., but reclaim my joy, passion, and peace, I needed to stop pushing. .. Im not giving up, Im giving myself a chance. Im not looking for sympathy or pity, Im vulnerably sharing so others know theyre not alone. Im being real and raw because shame dies when spoken. .. We dont have to live life in a way that weve been told we do. We dont have to be constantly striving to climb higher or get the next best thing - the better body, the higher income, the expensive things, the medals and awards, the outer praise. .. We can do anything we choose. But we dont have to do anything we havent chosen. No one gets to decide but each of us for ourselves. .. That we have to be going places, doing things, and proving to the world that we are having FUN! ::: For some, thats what a great life looks and sounds like, for others its quiet and simple. Joy..., fun, adventure, success, love, peace...they all have different meanings to each of us. And sometimes, they cant even be put into words, but rather are felt and sensed. ::: We know when something feels real, right, and authentic to us - when its a yes. We know when something feels fake, forced, not in alignment for us - when its a no. Emotions don't usually come as one singular feeling. And often, when change is happening in our lives, we get a whole host of feelings. The more we learn to welcome, allow, and be with WHATEVER comes up, the more we grow in our emotional intelligence. We can be so ready and excited for change, we can feel it in our hearts, our bones, our entire being, but yet feel scared, hesitant, a sense of loss and grief. And it can be a lot to process. This is when compassio...n is needed in high doses. Hold yourself like you would a scared child. Love yourself like you would a good friend. Im no longer able to tolerate mechanical, robotic, the cage. ::: For so long I moved my body rigidly - in ways that were prescribed to me, or were supposed to change my body into something worthy. When was the last time you judged someone? Maybe it was for not stepping it up and contributing more. Maybe it was for the way they handled things. Maybe it was for being too this or too that, and not enough of something else. We all do it. It's human nature - to expect others to fit our expectations and want them to act, behave, and do things the way that's most convenient for us. But here's the thing: they aren't us. Each person has his / her own s...tory, personality, triggers, beliefs, values, lens. Therefore, we cannot expect US from other people. What we can do? Is give people the benefit of the doubt, that they are doing the best they can with what they have, where they are. We can communicate openly, and clearly ask for what we need, and let others know what's important to us, what we need, what we enjoy and what we don't. None of us are mind readers, and we shouldn't be expected to know how others are feeling or thinking. While one person loves entertaining, socializing, and large gatherings, the thought of it may make another a nervous wreck. While one person can easily balance a number of "plates" and wear many "hats" at once, another may only have a plate big enough for one thing, and only one hat that makes her feel comfortable. One is not better than the other nor more valuable. We need all types of people in this world for it to go 'round. We need leaders, we need behind-the-scenes supporters, we need cheerleaders. We aren't all meant to be everything. The next time you are quick to judge, pause and remember that you don't know that person's story...any everybody's got one... Don't be afraid to reach out and check in on people. Don't be afraid to be vulnerable. Don't be afraid to be human. We all are. And we're doing the best we can. See more

Set goals - specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, with a date. Work hard. Don’t give up. Keep going. No excuses. .. This way exhausts me. For years I’ve been doing it like this. Pushing to achieve, do, get to the next level. To earn more, be better, make something of myself. And finally I’ve gotten to the point that I can’t do it anymore. When overwhelm led to burn out, to anxiety, then mild depression, I knew there had to be another way. In order to not only survive..., but reclaim my joy, passion, and peace, I needed to stop pushing. .. I’m not giving up, I’m giving myself a chance. I’m not looking for sympathy or pity, I’m vulnerably sharing so others know they’re not alone. I’m being real and raw because shame dies when spoken. .. We don’t have to live life in a way that we’ve been told we do. We don’t have to be constantly striving to climb higher or get the next best thing - the better body, the higher income, the expensive things, the medals and awards, the outer praise. ..
