On June 16, 2021, an article named: Length of Stay and 90-Day Readmission/Complication Rates in Unicompartmental Versus Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Propensity-Score-Matched Study of 10,494 Procedures Performed in a Fast-Track Setup was published on the PubMed website. The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in the length of the postoperative hospital stay (LOS) as well as readmissions and complications within 90 days after surgery between matched UKA (2786 p...atients) and TKA (7708 patients) cohorts. The conclusion of this study is that The UKA group had shorter hospital stays, a higher rate of discharge on the day of surgery, and fewer periprosthetic joint infections and reoperations compared with the matched TKA group. However, the TKA group had fewer aseptic revisions. Their findings support the use of UKA in a fast-track setup when indicated. On September 22, 2021, an article named: A 2021 consensus statement on osteotomies around the knee by the UK Knee Osteotomy consensus Group (KOG) was published on the PubMed website. In this paper, statements were generated and debated until a criterion level of 70% was met. Consensus was achieved regarding 20 statements concerning indications for surgery, decision making, surgical planning, technique, post-operative assessment and recovery. One statement that reached conse...nsus involved the calculation of the mechanical axis of the femur and tibia as well as the site of the osteotomy based on the present deformity. The consensus on this point is that over time it is likely that osteotomy planning software use will become more and more widespread and aid with this process, acknowledged by the UK Knee Osteotomy consensus Group.
