Pain and How People Can Experience Pain - Week 5 The last common way people can experience pain that we are going to talk about is by a traumatic or accidental injury. For example if you trip and fall forward on the ground, the weight of your body is what will injure your body. The muscles will try and catch you, and when they get a bash on contact with the ground, they will go into spasm. A spasm is the reaction to muscles suddenly working and then not. Sudden and quick cont...raction of many muscles. When your brain registers that something happened it will want to protect you, so it will tense the muscles up before you fall, but this sudden tightening of muscles will cause a spasm which will cause pain. Another example of how an accident can cause pain is whiplash. Whiplash is the lengthening of the muscles in the neck. They stretch out too far and your body’s reaction is Nope! and will tighten to pull them back. This quick lengthening and contracting of the muscle will cause pain. Sleeping on a couch for example offers no support and you're sleeping in a rainbow shape, underneath the rainbow you have short and tight muscles on top you get lengthened and stretched muscles. Pain and How People Can Experience Pain - Week 2 Today we are going to start talking about some common ways that people can experience pain. Something as simple as sitting at a desk can cause injury and pain. ... When sitting at a desk most people notice their Low back and neck start to get sore. The back arches when you sit for too long causing shortening of key postural muscles of the lower back. You might start to feel pain in your neck. Your posture usually isn’t in a proper supported form, your shoulders droop forward, your head is usually in a forward posture because your head wants to keep an optimal view. The back of the neck muscles called trapezius will get tight, and front of the neck muscles will get long. Both of these will equal weak muscles. With these weak muscles they can cause things like, headaches and migraines, TMJ issues, fatigue, etc. and can cause mid back pain Do you sit at a desk for extended periods of time?
