Posted @withregram @dr.sanazbondar Should I apply ICE or HEAT immediately after an injury? - Ice is the great choice for an acute (sudden) injury and here is the explanation. : : It works by reducing blood flow, reducing inflammation & swelling, relieving pain. : Use it in the first 24-72 hours of the injury. Cold can be used for acute... injuries, sprain, strain, migraine headache, gout flare-ups & post-workout. : If you have diabetes, poor circulation, cramping, open wound, blistered skin, vascular diseases, high blood pressure or on stiff joints and tight muscles. : Use an ice pad, bag of ice or frozen peas (wrapped in a moist towel - do not put on skin directly). Follow 10-10-10 minutes rule (Apply 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off and then 10 minutes on). Icing too long will cause frostbite. : : It works by improving blood flow, which can soothe discomfort and increase muscle flexibility. : Use it 72 hours after an injury or when the swelling has gone down. Heat can be used for chronic or old injuries, tension headache, arthritis, tight muscles, stiff joints, fibromyalgia & pre-workout. : If you have diabetes, dermatitis, vascular diseases, deep vein thrombosis, multiple sclerosis (MS), open wound, blistered skin or on acute injury. : Use a heat pad, hot water bottle (wrapped in a cloth).
