Security!! More online security tips. . Today is more on tip's number 3 & 4. Online Security tip #3 - Create strong passwords and use a password vault.... Gone are the days when adding a number to your password would make it stronger. With an increasing amount of hacking, securing your personal information with a strong password is important. Using at least 1 upper case letter, 1 number and 1 symbol are great ways to make your password more difficult to break. Another alternative is to use a pass phrase, this would be a run-on sentence with no breaks. This is another hard to break password option. Avoid using any words or numbers that have a significant meaning to you. If you can't come up with something secure, look at a password generator that will generate a random combination that is hard to hack. Got too many passwords? Try a password vault, such as Bitwarden. A password vault comes in handy, especially if you have used a password generator. Keep all those crazy passwords straight with a vault, so you don't have to! . Another great layer of security is two-factor or multi-factor authentication. More websites are adding this option to their users to help protect information. If you can get it, use it! Two-factor authentication adds in a second layer of protection, so if someone gets your password, they still have another hurdle to go through before gaining access. Most two-factor authentications use security questions after the password has been entered, or a time-sensitive code that is sent via text or email. A simple added step to protect your information. #password #cybersecurity #informationsecurity #tech #privacy #boltonsmithinc #authentication #security #technology #accesscontrol #identification #privacy #datasecurity #encryption #digital #identityauthentication #techeducation
Tip #1 - Don’t open or answer any unknown emails/phone calls or flyers. Be suspicious of any emails, phone calls or flyers that don't look legitimate. Most phishing emails and phone calls are designed to imitate a group or organization that you would share personal information with. For emails, check the email address. Extra numbers, letters or characters beside or around the organizations name are a giveaway for a fraudulent email.... For phone calls, the government does not contact you using an automated voice. For flyers, if it sounds too good to be true, don't trust it. Tip #2 - Update, update, update! Keep your device software and programs up to date. Updating your software, operating system, programs and apps helps to shut down breaches in security. Every company continues to update their software to increase security and create a better user experience. Forget to update? Turn on auto update on devices and software that you want to remain secure. That way you can set it and forget it.
