Today we would like to wish a very happy 99th birthday to Commander (Retired) Peter Godwin Chance of Sidney, BC. Cdr. Chance was one of only 300 officers in the... Royal Canadian Navy at the start of the Second World War. During his long and distinguished 32-year career, he qualified as a specialist in navigation and as an aircraft controller, obtained an 'A' pilot's license, and served in 13 ships including aircraft carriers, a battleship, cruisers, destroyers and a frigate. He also commanded a frigate and a destroyer. Beloved by many for his sense of humour, his great personal charm and his many significant contributions to Canada and Canadian society, Peter is a true Canadian hero. See more
