Fortunately my client didn't have much more than this file box to deal with. However, the files could be better managed to reduce anxiety of the dreaded search. . . Now there's a desktop file to only hold papers for a temporary time that requires action - has an expiry date, due date, needs to file or scan. Allocate time in a schedular once a week to scan through these papers to avoid a build up. #ReduceClutter #QuickTip . . Important documents for long term storage are now easily accessible in the file storage box. To keep this box from getting overloaded, there are plans for my client to have digital files of tax returns and any other document that does not require a hard copy. #GoDigital or have a proper paper file management system. . . #ControlClutter don't let it control you. To make the best use of space in this corner, this five drawer chest was the perfect height to place under the desk. #AlwaysMeasure The drawers are useful to hold printer paper, card stock, notepads, envelopes and clipboards. Adding a #label to the drawer helps to remind my client were to find supplies, where to return them or refill.#Organized #OfficeSupplies Even the shredder has a home. #OptimizeSpace . .... To optimize storage for small office supplies, the drawer of this #IKEA desk was the perfect choice. #BonaFideOrganizing #PersonalOrganizer . .... These acrylic drawer organizers help keep the drawers tidy by compartmentalizing (big word of the day) - divide or separate by categories - office supplies. A few challenges with getting organized is knowing where to start, what is the right area to contain those items, how will it all fit if you have alot? #BonaFideOrganizing #PersonalOrganizer . .... Just start...with one...area, space, drawer, cabinet at a time. The "right" area or chosen area is determined on how best the space will function based on how it's being utilized. Similar to the #Kitchen #WorkTriangle the most frequently used foods and meal prep items should be in close proximity to create better efficiency. There is always space to be found! #Facts . . In my clients case, an area was already established. The snack/breakfast cabinet. When we were all done figuring out what stays and leaves, we found room to fit it ALL in just the upper portion. You'll see pics of what is being stored in the lower soon! . . Easiest part of finding space is using my clients empty food storage bins to fill with cereal and oats. Additional food storage bins were purchased to contain the rest. As backstock of some items are depleted, there are no plans to replace them or as many. More space again! Love that! . . Hot Beverage Cabinet and Sorrel. Best place to put a little leftover package of sorrel so it's easily found for use during the Cristmas season. I mean sorrel is steeped like tea, thus being in this section right? . . Most frequently consumed teas/coffee are placed on the lowest shelves for easy reach. I love the use of clear bins to easily identify the contents. And if the bin is emptied out, my client will know what belonged in it when replenishing stock since it's la...beled. #HelpfulTip . . To take advantage of the cavernous pit in the corner of the cabinet, I opted to use long bins to contain the large collection of assorted steeped and bagged teas. #NoWastedSpace . . I made a hot mess of my clients counter. It always looks so bad, but I swear it gets better!!I hauled everything out of this cabinet so we can identify what may be expired, no longer being used or needs to be relocated. #TheProcess . . Taken from it's old home in the cabinets to the new home in drawers holds kids sippy cups, bowls, straws, and cutlery. Cupcake molds and cookie cutters are are occupied in the same drawer for bake time with two of the most adorable little boys. #CutiePatooties #BonaFideOrganizing #PersonalOrganizer . .... To give the drawer a tidy appearance, similar items are grouped together and placed in bins. I live for a good thrift find. Eight dollars yo!! This mid-century modern foot stool has perfect tapered legs and is quite sturdy, it just needed a little rejuvenation. I also knew I wanted a background image (leafy foliage). I searched online until I saw the perfect one. Next, chose a font, size and color that would stand out and was easily legible. This multipurpose area for crafts and mail became the landing area for anything that didn't have a proper home. . . #Before Initially this area was to be used as a command center but my client's routine shifted once the home office was set up in the basement. Mail and other papers would be handled there as well as using an email calendar for scheduling important dates and reminders.... . . #After Items that didn't belong have been purged or assigned a new home. Purging paper can be this thrilling! Set a date, play some music and crush that paper in drawers or surfaces! A partner helps too. Mr. @itsrastafly is awesome help! Besides some paper belongs to him and I need his input. . . I separated paper in three categories:... SCAN/FILE : physical hard copy of important documents ie. birth/death/marriage certificate, insurance/pension policies, vehicle titles, current tax returns. SHRED: anything I can easily find on line or with name and address on it - bank statements, utility bills, old medical records, tax returns past 7 years (double check that) RECYLE: expired everything - warranties, receipts. Information pamphlets and got gutsy tossing manuals that were rarely used. OMG waaaay teeeewww much! . . Regrets? Nope. But I did panick a little when I forgot how to set up a protective guard on a hand saw. BUT, I quickly found a tutorial on YouTube which was far easier than I remember when I read the manual. . . Not that ready for a deep paper purge or not tech savvy. No worries. Basically keep all physical documents that would be a pain to replace. Keep the most recent statements and shred once the new one arrives. Be sure all of your papers are categorized and organized in a file cabinet, drawer or desktop so you can quickly find what you need in a pinch. . . Anyone realize that when you free pour a container of pasta over a bubbling pot of hot water, some of the steam escapes into your container? No, just me? . . Seeing this, I would grab a paper towel and dry the insides so my pasta wouldn't risk get any moisture. I suppose it may have been exposed to moisture anyway. But just to give myself peace of mind, I now pour into a measuring cup before adding to the water. Am I overreacting? .... . P.S. Adding labels cuts out mistakenly mixing penne with rigatoni. A quick way to transform a space without renovating is with paint. Way more inexpensive too! #HugeSavings #BonaFideOrganizing #PersonalOrganizer . .... I actually enjoying painting, but much prefer to cut instead of roll. To "cut" simply means separating two paint colours using a brush, no painters tape. I've tried other methods in the past, taping off the ceiling or using a paint edge tool. Never worked the greatest for me. It either lead to paint bleeding under the tape, paint coming off on the tape or the tool making my cut much darker or streaky. Surely, if I free styled and used a brush, I couldn't be any worse could I? Heh heh, a few times touching the brush to the ceiling but nothing that couldn't be easily fixed.
