Today is National Indigenous People’s Day. Educating ourselves, listening to Indigenous perspectives, admiring Indigenous artwork, and learning the history through oral storytelling will help us learn and understand the importance of working together to heal the residential school trauma. I am proud to work with organizations like Alpha House Society - Calgary that are committed to honouring Indigenous people. We have much work to do in our reconciliation journey! At the ...centre of the universe dwells the great spirit. And that centre is really everywhere. It is within each of us. - Black Elk #IndigenousHistory #IndigenousHistoryMonth

Have you done your mid-year communications check-in? June is a good time to review your annual plan to track progress against this year’s goals. Here are a few questions to consider: What are your analytics telling you? What is working and what is falling flat? With the economy and travel starting to open up, how will things change for your stakeholders?... How do you need to pivot or adjust to better support your internal and external stakeholders? Do your key messages still ring true or do they need a refresh? What new opportunities exist (as restrictions start to lift) that can be added to your plan? Planning is a fluid process and this year, more than ever, strategic communications needs to be flexible and nimble. A mid-year evaluation can set you up for even greater success for the balance of 2021! #PR #YYCPR #BonnieElgiePublicRelations

It’s Seniors Week in Alberta, and it’s certainly time to celebrate. I am honoured to work with seniors serving organizations, especially during such a challenging time. To say that their strength and sacrifices they’ve made are inspiring is an understatement. While celebrating seniors should happen everyday, this week is a small way to show our seniors community just how special they are to us. One of my favourite aspects of working with seniors is hearing their incredible ...stories and seeing first-hand their zest for life. I truly admire their resilience. To all Alberta seniors, this week is for you! #seniorsweek #yycseniors #abseniors #communications #PR #publicrelations #marketing #yyc #calgary #notforprofit #Intercare Silvera for Seniors Bethany Care Society Alberta Continuing Care Association

TBT to my first career job working for a major market radio station in Vancouver. I was a promotions coordinator, which meant working at lots of different events. I also had my own little spot in the morning show to talk about events and sometimes did cruiser reports on the weekend. It was the best first job ever and I am thankful for the lessons and opportunities! #ckwx #prjobs #careerdevelopment #radio #vancouver

We did it! We made it through the nightmare that was 2020, pivoting, adapting and dealing with challenges 12 months ago we never imagined could be possible! So what is next? How do you begin to prepare for 2021? There is hope on the horizon with the vaccine but timing and logistics are still largely undetermined. I think the best approach for communications planning is to take it one quarter at a time. There is too much uncertainty to take the long-term view. So, what does Q1... 2021 look like for your organization? What do your customers, employees and supporters need? How can you best meet these needs? How can you effectively scale and adapt as we learn more about the vaccine and its implications on our economy? What worked for your business in 2020 and how can you build on this success? These are all good questions to ask as you look forward and if you need help, please reach out. We can reframe, rebuild and set you up for future success. All the best of the holiday season and cheers to a fresh start in 2021.

It's #GivingTuesdayCA! I love working with non-profit organizations that do incredible work to help vulnerable people and make our community and world a better place. Here are three organizations I am honoured to support. I invite you to check them out: Classroom Champions - a nonprofit and charity, Classroom Champions connects volunteer Olympians, Paralympians, Student-Athletes, and Professional Athletes to K-8 classrooms through a social and emotional based curriculum and m...entorship experience. Calgary Alpha House Society - a non-profit, charitable agency that provides safe and caring environments for individuals whose lives are affected by alcohol and other drug dependencies. Silvera for Seniors - a trusted non-profit leader in providing a diverse selection of safe, affordable housing and important services to independent older adults. #community #giveback #philanthropy #givingtuesday #givehope

Like many, I am digging deep to find joy these days. One of the things that helps me stay positive is a daily gratitude practice. When it comes to my professional life, I appreciate the clients who trust me to help them navigate the good, the bad and the (sometimes) ugly, and today I am thankful for the opportunities to: 1) Champion the important mental health and addiction work agencies are doing to support vulnerable people in our province; 2) Work alongside continuing care... operators who are in the eye of the storm in this pandemic and doing all they can to keep residents safe; 3) Meet and interview business leaders and entrepreneurs across Canada who inspire audiences with their stories of resilience; 4) Join an exceptionally talented team of communicators to champion the transformational work happening in Canada’s leading energy company; and 5) Partner with a network of incredible colleagues who share the same commitment to getting through difficult times together and to know we will be better because of it. I’d love to hear what you are thankful for! And Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends and colleagues. #thankfulthursday #thanksgiving2020

Look at the beautiful poppy display created by seniors living in Silvera for Seniors communities! Inspired by a desire to honour our soldiers, these amazing seniors have been knitting and crocheting 1400+ poppies over the past month. Thank you for honouring our veterans in such a beautiful way. #lestweforget
