The rumour is our rose bushes are arriving this week! If you have been in the greenhouse recently, you have seen the large soil pile on the floor. We will be using this soil to plant dormant rose bushes. After they are planted, the rose bushes will live in a cool part of the greenhouse until early April, when they move to one of our 'cold frames' to make room for our petunias. Last year, our rose bushes sold out in record time. We have ordered some more this year, but not many because of our limited growing space. If you are looking for roses this spring, make sure to come early in May before some colours sell out!

Saturday's are made even better with succulents

Thousands of seeds have been sown and some have started to come up already. But we are just at the beginning; we still have thousands more to plant every week until May. Seen here are some of our eucalyptus seedlings. These sold out fast last year; look for them to be available in early May!

If you have been following along since July, when we first planted our poinsettias, you will be happy to know they are now ready for sale! We grew 2400 this year; 1800 red, 300 white, 100 pink, 100 burgundy, and 100 'glitter' (red with white speckles). Poinsettias change colour because of the amount of light they receive. In September, when there are ~12 hours of sunlight each day, the flowering is initiated. By early October, you can see the transition from green to colour.... Varieties have different flowering times, so not all of the colours are ready to be sold at this time; the burgundy and glitter will be ready the first week of December. We grow four different red poinsettias. Each variety finishes changing colour about 1-1.5 weeks difference. In this picture, you can see how advanced each of the four varieties are. Starting in the top left is our earliest variety 'Majoris', and going clockwise you can see how each of the other plants is a little less red than the one next to it.
