Patterned silver end-papers, silver coated fly-leaves. Illustrated with plates of her artwork, most in colour. Tiny chip from the upper edge of the front cover, very light edge wear, a nice clean copy. This is the 1971 first edition of this compilation of Joni Mitchell's art & lyrics, reproduced in facsimile, of which copies ...were given to her friends as gifts. 100 copies were produced.The book was recently(2019) issued in a regular edition, about which Joni Mitchell wrote:"In the early 1970s I used to carry a sketchbook around with me everywhere I went. I drew with colored pens. Once when I was sketching my audience in Central Park, they had to drag me onto the stage. After a while I had quite a collection of drawings. The drawings were becoming more important to me than the music at that time. I had put the drawings into a ring binder accompanied by hand-written lyrics. Elliot Roberts, my manager, and David Geffen, my agent, took my binder of drawings and lyrics and had a limited edition of books made up.This original 1971 edition is accompanied by a small Christmas card warmly inscribed in pen to a friend [Don Freed] from her hometown Saskatoon, signed Joni. Also laid into the book are a colour backstage laminate from the 2000 All-Star Tribute to Joni Mitchell, a 1998 video shoot itinerary for Warner Soundstage, and a San Jose Hyatt Hotel envelope addressed to Ms. Mitchell & Mr. Freed, from check-in. This is a page from the [1708 - 1712] Historiae Celebriores Veteris Testamenti / Novi Testamenti, published in Nuremberg by Christoph Weigel. Engravings are from designs by Jan & Caspar Luyken..., and Francesco Antonio Meloni. The Old Testament contained 151 plates, and the New Testament contained 108 engraved plates. The engravings have text beneath in Latin and German. Sheet size is 35.5cm x 24,5cm. Condition is clean and very good, nice dark impressions. A depiction of The Drawing Academy at The Felix Meritis Society in Amsterdam, showing the wire frame from which backdrops were suspended, also artists sketching a live model and a skinned cadaver. Some wear to edges and short marginal tears (none reach into the plate), a very good copy. A striking and uncommon image. The philanthropic Felix Meritis ("Happy by Merit") Society was founded in Amsterdam in 1777. In 1788 the Louis XVI-style house built by Dutch architect Jacob Otten Husly was opened in the Keizersgracht. The drawing room, in which live models were posed, had a special feature of a lattice scaffold attached to the ceiling which could be lowered if necessary, to aid in posing models.
